Post Kessie...17 days

Anita and I were gone back to New England for a week (our friend looked in on the girls) to visit family.  It was my mom's 75th Birthday, our 30th Wedding Anniversary and our great nephew's 2nd Birthday, along with just wanting to see our parents, siblings, aunts, uncles and cousins...

We walked in the house, and no one came to greet us.

Miss Kessie was always the first to the door.

Both Hildie and Chessie are more vocal and more "lappish."

Miss Teia, seems a little more willing to spend time outside of her closet, and talks.

I know we all miss Kessie.

How perfectly fitting the inscription on Kessie's urn.  I love it.  It sounds like the girls are adjusting, with the exception of Hildie who I'm sure does miss her sister.  I hope you and Anita are adjusting also.

I would never adopt a kitten either, Pip.  Just too many adult cats out there who are waiting for their forever home.

Hugs to everyone from Jade and I! ♥

I would like having my babies cremated in A VERY REMOTE FUTURE!
But those procedures here are a lot expensive and also there are few pet crematories.
In fact, humane ones are just know becoming more popular _ I live in a medium size city and we have just one...
I could count with the  PET ones in a big city nearby - but that would mean remotion fees and make things even  more expensive
What about this business in USA and Canada?
Do you have many places? Are expensive?

Well, we got Kessie back from Saint Francis Pet Crematory by way of our vet today.  The basic urn she is in is very nice and has a wonderful inscription:

"Herewith are deposited the remains of one who possessed beauty without vanity, strength without insolence, courage without ferocity, and all the virtues of human beings, without their vices.  This praise would be unmeaning flattery if inscribed over human ashes, is but a just tribute, which makes one grateful to now have the privilege, of the happy memories left behind, by this pet."

Such a good, big life for such a little package.

I stop by the local Petsmart to speak with the woman who volunteers at the adoption room they have.  She is affiliated with the county animal shelter.  They do a good job of screening the cats and letting you know if they will get along with other kitties, have a fostering program, too.

I am considering the same Pip Tweety is lonely with no cats around, she didnt always like them but they were there.None here only bunnies and birds, I am still thinking about it as I dont know how she would react.. she is used to being spoilt.I see what you are saying that one of your cats will take on the mantle Kessie wore ,interesting.I will wait to see how it works out getting another kitty..

Miss Hildie has become very vocal, walks the house calling for her sister we think.

Miss Chessie has become a regular fixture at bedtime.

Miss Teia continues on, but seems more likely to sleep on the bath mat as in "her" closet.

We all miss Kessie, who set a different tone for the house than did Cammie, or Victoria...

It is so odd and wonderful to see how the mantle of "Boss Cat" passes and is worn.

Victoria was BC from when we took in her and her sister Cammie in February 1983 until she passed in May 2000.

Cammie wore the mantle well (it was so awe inspiring at how the kittens just took to her leadership, and need to not be played with too much) until she passed in March 2004.

Kestrel looked at the mantle, and played with it.

Teia, as eldest, should "assume the throne," but seems content with being Countessa of the Closet.

Hildie tries, but Chessie is too British and stubborn.

I don't think we'll have a new Queen of the House until we have a fully new crew.

No more kittens, though, only older kitties in need of a new home.

It's always hard with first times, as has been mentioned.  It sounds like the other kitties are settling into slight variations in their usual routines.

I can perfectly imagine  how hard that situation was/is- but I'm glad all the others are fime.
They are for sure missing Kessie as well but they will help you and Anita, conforting one to each other
Loreena dont climb the stairs and wait for me on the porch anymore - if she is outside ( quite rare), she only shows her face when Im almost at the door.
Most of the time she is INSIDE - closed there all day long.
That bother me  and I pity her- but I have to be happy she is there safe and sound

Glad you and Anita were able to be with family for the various celebrations.

Coming home for the first time since Kessie's death is one of those reality checks that you will experience for awhile.

As to the other girls...from what I've seen, cats mourn..each a little differently...but they feel her absence.

Day at a time, and it does get easier.

We did half expect to see Kessie as the reports from our friend said all the girls looked fine, even Teia came out to look at her. =)

Hildie was on her window shelf in our bedroom, Teia was on the bathmat and Chessie (who is Teia's Not-Friend, but would like to be) was napping under the couch (we have it raised on blocks).

This morning, as Chessie jumped down from the bed (she usually sleeps beside me) Teia let forth a less enthusiastic hiss than usual, though.

Aw Pip, those 'first times' are hard, I know.  For a second, I bet you two expected Kessie to be right there to greet you when you got home.  I'm glad you have the girls to comfort you, and you, them.  Teia is sounding real good.  Forgive me, but was it Kessie who she didn't care for?  Take care, Pip.  Hugs

I am glad you both were able to have this get away together and do some visiting and found the kids safe and sound upon return, its a good sign when they don't run to the door with complaints as you arrive...:) they must have been content, although missing you both and Miss Kessie as well.....
I don't think one ever gets over the loss, just gets a little less painful with the passing of time♥
