It works by being absorbed into the skin, gets into the bloodsteam, then the liver and finally into the intestines. The claim is that the active ingredients are activated by enzymes in the liver. I've not heard of it causing gas per se, but anything foreign (whether the chemicals or the worms themselves) in the intestinal track can cause a reaction via bloating, diarrhea, etc. Personally, I would rather use an oral dewormer such as strongid and bypass all that skin, bloodstream, rigermaroll. Why put extra body parts at risk when there is no need to.
Well, some time ago I found a website which talk about deaths possibly due to what's contained in the product. The reported deaths were all related to the heart and this product. Now, I'm not sure if this is a fact; but if your kitty has worms, then there are tons of dewormers out there that are safer to use.
Here is the website: http://www.hartzvictims.org/2008/06/22/profender/
Are you using Profender as a topical medication? If so, I'm not sure how it'd be causing gas. Have you changed the food? Have you spoken to the vet about this?
