kitten has eye discharge

i rescued a kitten recently and it was a bit young and now having trouble with its eyes.  having yellow  and green discharge and buildup . i have to wash its eyes out, what can i do for the kitten and what causes this?

opus88 is right. Just want to stress; these little infections can explode out, leading to serious damage and a partial or full loss of vision in a matter of a day or two. So it's a good idea to get right on it.

You'll also need to get kitty tested, as sometimes frequent infections in a young kitty can indicate or more serious (but manageable!) issue that needs treating.

so good of you to take a little one into your home when they need your help so badly.I think the kitten really needs to have a good check up by a vet..
a yellow/green discharge really indicates an infection, if not looked aftr the kitten will loose its sight...
