Cat licking all of hair off!

I don't know if this is behavorial or allergies. My cat, female has been licking all her hair off for 6 mo now. This happened sortly soon after she got fixed. She has always been on the thin side. I use Frontline Plus here in Florida. She is totally an inside cat. Now she looks naked except for her head and the places she cannot reach to lick. I took her to a Value Vet once and they told me to give her some hormone. This Did Not Work!. She is so beautiful and sweet, loving since getting fixed. We have one other Cat with no problems. Could it be actually allergies, maybe she needs a steroid?  Maybe something else? Our cats do not have fleas. Help!  Thank You!

If she has been doing this for 6 months, she may be stuck in a vicious cycle.  There may have been some infestation or irritation 6 months ago that started it.  Then the licking and hair loss itself increases the skin's sensitivity so she continues licking.  It can eventually cause breaks in the skin's surface which can lead to infection, stimulating further licking and hair loss.  I would suggest taking her to a vet to either rule out or treat any infection or infestation (mange mites for example and not visible to the naked eye).  You might also need to physically restrain her from licking with a funnel collar until you can break this cycle.

Is she on any anti-flea medication. What changed after she got spayed?
It could be allergies, but what I'm curious about is the fact that this started six months ago. Something must have triggered this excessive licking. Have you contacted another vet?
Have you tried adding digestive enzymes to the food? Lack of this causes hair loss; but it could be stress. I think taking her to another vet and getting a second opinion would be your best option. Good Luck!
