Sending good wishes and prayers and hoping meds work.
I spend more on my cat than myself. Should have been a vet. LOL!
The antibiotics 'might' cause a decrease in appetite...which is normal, try not to panic. Apple, even though Loreena drinks a lot of water, it is never enough. Wouldn't hurt to put a few drops in the bottom of her food bowl. She won't know the difference, and will lap it right up. That is a trick I used on Jade. Worked like a charm. Sending positive thoughts for this to clear up quickly!! Hugs honey. To the girls too.
Clare...I still have to add up Jade's bills that accumulated over 8½ yrs. I'm scared to see the total!!!
Did you have insurance??? I Hope???
I bet you could have bought a new car. We missed out on being Vets....too Bad.
Luv to you girlfriend
No we didn't have ins. Jade had too many pre-existing conditions. Even if she would of qualified, stupid us, we thought we couldn't afford it. With the money we charged to the credit card, you're right, we could of bought a new car. Just the surgery alone to remove her ears in 09... She lived another 6yrs after that with one thing after another. Our vet was a small outfit. Dr often gave us a break on the office visit, especially at the end.
Ha, funny, but under our high school grad pic, we were supposed to say what we were interested as a career. I put "Veterinarian". :)
xoxo
sorry Lolo is having troubles:( we mommy's worry so much over our babies. I read the journal. you said fosfate crystals, you must mean struvite? I am assuming struvite crystals are formed when the urine is too alkaline therefore acidifiers such as Vitamin C are given. I don't understand why the steroid(corticoid) does the Vet say she has inflammation? or was this for pain purposes?
steroids can give relief, but they can also cause side effects, so read up on that and ask why it was prescribed
infection is not always present with crystals.....crystals form because the PH in the urine is off balance, too acidic or too alkaline. the ideal balance is a level of 7.0 ask the Vet what her PH level is please
it is important that you feed her a canned food diet, yes like Jade suggeted even add extra water. water is needed to keep the urine less concentrated and therefore crystals are less likely to form
it also helps flush out the bladder and that is very important!!!
I am hoping she is much better soon and peeing LOTS....fingers crossed♥
You know Loreena and you have the good thoughts of everyone here at Catamount Grange.
Thanks for supporting guys .we do appreciate that soo much...
Opus, vet did think she had an infection -cos there were eritrocites and leucocites there plus the crystal.( I tell you more about later on)
But she was not in pain that day, she was fine and the fever doct got was 39.4 C ( normal till 39.2 C)
I had to check it all better on line and post details asap - IF NET colaborate, Of course...
First days of medicine she was peeing just once but a better amount of
But since yesterday morning I didnt see more pee :-(
Yesterday morning I started the C vitamin
And she is quieter today...
So, IM WORRIED ABOUT IT!!!
She accepted very well her pills yesterday night ( I'm giving those between 6.30 pm and 7.30 PM)
I dont know the vet who is the at the clinic today.I passed by to check and I didnt like the way he said " medicines are done to make them better " when I asked if meds could be causing her to feel disturbed
EVERYBODY knows MEDS can have SIDE EFFECTS!!!
Many originally prescribed meds were substituted by similars - but that was vet authorized!!!
Loreena has an appointment back on monday, where the first vet (one that I like and the one that examinated her)
But, as you now, sickness on weekends scares me a lot!!!
Ps Steroids dosis will be reduced today
It was 3 days 2pills, now are 3 days just 1
From now on - and acording to response - she will be just with antibiotic ( same dose 1/2 pill)
no sure about the vitamin - he didnt specified the time
You'are right as usual - struvite is the other name for those crystals.
Ph level is 6.5 ( normal rate 5.5 to 6.5)
Density 1,064 ( normal rate 1,015 to 1,045)
Not sure if I already mentioned hidden blood and a few bacterias.
I am not giving much importance to those bacterium since he colected the urine sample from the vet table ( yes , he did it - I guess he was not expecting her to pee so easily and afraid getting another sample could mean problems)
Hoping I can be back soon with good WET news -
More holidays here next week - s****
Please keep praying for us...
I don't blame you for not paying much heed to the bacteria reading since it was obtained off the table.....
A PH of 6.5 here in Canada is considered normal!!! So that's great news, wouldn't be concerned abt crystals....so ease up on the Vit C or she'll become too acidic and that can cause another form of crystals called oxalate.
Keep giving her the wet food and lots of additional water. Sending my prayers as always. If you've started the antibiotic make sure you finish it all
Xoxo Lolo
Saying prayers for you and Lo. How is it going. Keep us posted.
Good Luck,
CML
Lolo peing stuff seems to be better ,getting normal.
Now she's off steroids for 2 to 3 days and looks more active.
Monday she was agressive with siblings and that was killing me - she was doing that scaring sound to them and she was really afraid off.
Something tells me is due to steroid - she never had problems with those but this time she was getting 2 pills dosis plus antibiotic.
Now she is "detoxed" ( I guess) and I do hope we have a "familiar love section" once more at night
Antiobiotic will end tomorrow...
She was supposed to have a vet appointment back this monday and we went there. But,as I mentined, it was holiday and "that" vet was not there.
The one available was a boring one that never had saw her til that day and he just checked temperature -normal- and heard the heart ( or mime he was doing it...)
Tell us to came back next Monday...
They will probably ask another urine test / a blood one them
I mean kids were afraid of Lolo ...
Yesterday Joy and Lucky were playing each other - "since mom is not in the mood..."
Happy to hear the steroid is done and she is peeing ok. It probably was the medication causing her some aggression, keep an eye on that...because pain can also be a cause.
Sending Lolo my prayers
Pain was a small possibility - but I credited the behavior to the pills cos she never showed any sign of pain or disconfort with my touchings ( or vet ones)
I dont know what I 'll do if vet ask blood test next week - not only Im broken but also pitying disturb Lolo now that she is acting 99% normaly now ( includes peeing outside and massaging me :-) )
On the other hand, for a blood test later on- if vet say its safe- I would probably need to pay another visit and take here at the clinic AGAIN
I think the increase in aggression was due to the pills, too. It sounds like Loreena is feeling much better, Apple. Hopefully the vet will not need any new blood work. Oh, and ha, you made me laugh with the 'miming' comment. Normally, Vets became Vets because they love and want to help animals, so I'm sure Lolo's heart really was checked with no 'miming' involved. :)
As you can see, I didnt like that much that vet .t was the one that had said "remedies are to make one better" :-)
But news today are not very good, unfortunatelly.
Monday she went to Dr Fabiano ( I will post picts asap) and all was looking great, except for a bladder empty but a little "differente (That was not the word he used but im in a hurry now) He just said we had wait some more time and redo the exam = and I gladly agree cos she was absolutely normal
But It seems like Lo is back to the original problem - started yesterday night :-(
And friday is another holiday so is all back to the original point - I'm feeling very tired.
Had a little chat with one of the vets ( this one I like) and he told me to go back to c vitamin and just wait til Monday to do a new Urine test ( a more complex one, probably.)
Blood work seems to be discarded by now -just hope she keeps peeing enough for me to get a sample home
I just am not sure what all is going on??? if she is still having troubles passing her urine, she must have crystals blocking her tubes? I hope this won't mean surgery for our poor Lolo....
apple you must have her on canned food....NO dry food!! this is very important with crystals
sending my love and prayers...yes keep up with the Vit C too♥
Vet believe is just cistite ( urinary infection)
No one mentioned surgery by now - and they say is very hard a female cat get really blocked ( my first and worse fear)
The one I talked today ( Dr.Marcelo - the anesthesist and owner of the clinic- one of those I trust on, besides Dr Fabiano)just told me to keep watching and do what I mentioned...
Hope Loreena gets to feeling better.
Apple, what you can do is add a tiny bit of water to the bottom of Lolo's meals. Every time. She will lap it right up like it's gravy. Just a little though, you don't want to water down her food so she turns her nose up.
I'm keeping our Loreena in my thoughts. Hugs to you, Apple. The worry; back and forth from the vet; it's exhausting.
Thanks a bunch, friends. And Pip, I 'll be sending good vibes to you ...
