What is wrong with my cat?

I woke up this morning to my cat meowing loudly at the end of my bed. I didn't think anything of it. I then realized that his head was shaking back and forth and he was breathing heavily. I went to get a blanket to carry him downstairs and all of a sudden he fell down the stairs. He could not stand at all... now everytime he tries to stand he falls over. I have been giving him water with a dropper and he reluctantly licks it. He will not eat. He just lays on his blanket and every once in a while tries to get up. We carry him to his litter box but like I said he cannot stand. Does this sound like a stroke? He does purr and does not seem to be in pain.  I would appreciate any info.

P.S. My cat is only 2 years old.
Also I know that he did not get into poison or a plant as we don't have any around the house. We have another cat and a dog and they are fine.

Thank you so much he seems to be getting better, eating, walking kind of. He is going to the vet at 4pm.

I agree with Savas. When something like this happens there are more than one possible causes. To get a full diagnosis you'll need to have kitty assessed by the vet. It could be easily treatable at an early stage hun, so try not to prolong his situation and find a cure at the vet.You may find that things which could be easily diagnosed and get rid of become very hard to treat at an advanced stage.

Good Luck.

You'll have to take your cat to the vet. It could be a number of things, some of them easily treatable. It's possible it's just a parasite infection, in which case you need to know if there's a chance your other animals have it. Gone untreated long enough, even a simple parasite can cause these types of problems and even kill.
