cat peeing on chair

Hi. My 13 year old cat has taken to peeing on one leather chair. It is very inconsistent, maybe once a month or every three weeks. I am thinking there is no infection because it does not happen often and there is no blood in the urine. She seems to be able to jump just fine when she wants to pee on the chair, even though she may have slight arthritis. We have two litter boxes downstairs that our 2 cats use, they are cleaned at least every second day. The second cat has been with us for almost 2 1/2   years, the 2 do not always get along. I am thinking she may be peeing out of stress and anxiety because of the inconsistency of the episodes, even though nothing has changed in our home since she started this.  I am really trying to solve this on my own before I take her to the vet and need to spend $400 to $500 to maybe find out what I already suspect. Any advice would be appreciated.

I've got a few ideas. 1) If you've recently changed cat litter, that may be the culprit.  2)  Cat litter needs to be cleaned every single day. Cats are very picky creatures. Try cleaning them every day and see if this helps. 3)  Do you have 3 cats?  As a rule of thumb, you need one litter box for every cat, plus one extra box.  From your post, you said that you have 2 litter boxes down stairs,  If you have none upstairs, try to put one upstairs.

Hope these ideas help and your kitty is not suffering from a medical issue.

Hi Schaefs,

Yea, I just hate when that happens. I'm a senior too, and sometimes it just happens. Although, picking one's spot isn't usually a luxury when it is incontinence

Cat's (God Love them) usually have a reason for their behavior. It is their way of talking to us. So it seems like your kit has something to say, and he wants to make sure you hear him so she has picked someone's favorite chair.

You seemed to have covered all the usual suspects, you may need to consult with your vet. Perhaps you can call the office, explain the situation , and they can come up with an answer without having your kitty be seen by the vet.....but if it is a medical issue , I am afraid you have no choice. I am sure you do not want to have her in pain, right?

Others here may know more, so see what happens today.

Good Luck and let us know what you find out. It helps all of us.
