got my cat spayed

so I decided to spay my 5 years old cat today. I took her in the clinic 9am and picked her up 1:30pm. she was in my room (I removed everything she can climb of) but in a cage while she's recovering to the anesthesia. she was groggy, unable to stand even if she tried to get up and wants to come out of the cage. around 4pm I noticed she was panting and then at some point her tongue is sticking out! I panicked coz even though this is my first time dealing a spay, I got my male neutered but he didn't pant or anything. I phoned the clinic and I was advise to bring her back. so I did. they took her temperature and it was 40 degree celcius. she said it was probably stress due to wanting to go out of the cage. she got a pain medication injected and injectable antibiotics good for 2weeks. when I took her home again I let her be in the room instead of the cage. she was still panting and after a while it stop. now she's sleeping, getting up walk around and go back again from sleeping getting up and walking. no food and water after 8pm last night and she's allowed to eat small meals later around 6:30 pm. I'm really nervous and all until now that she might develop something not good along the way! does my situation normal? the panting and all. and any calming advice that u can give me? the vet didn't give me an e collar and said if she happen to lick or scratch, then I should bring her back. she attempts to lick or whatever she wants to do once on the incision site but I discouraged it right away. so far she didn't repeat it again.
pls pray for speedy recovery!

You can use a protective clothe instead of the e- colar.
A d.i.y one  is easy to improvise by using  long socks or 1 sleeve of a long sleeve t- shirt. You just have to make holes for the frontal paws and adjust behind using medical adhesive tape.
Glue the tape only on the fabric, not in her fur
Free and easy...Videos on you tube can be found.
OR you can buy a surgical clothe ready - if you prefer...

I think she looks good.  The incision looks great and she is sprawled out in the open. Usually cats in pain or not feeling good curl into a ball and hide.

There is a soft collar--it comes in sizes and allows her to eat. It is not as bad as the hard plastic one. No bandages will work it needs air and it really helps to be sure she is not even tempted. She will begin sneaking away from you so you won't be able to stop her--soooo it is a good idea!

She will be fine in a few more days--if not you know where to go.

the panting has been resolved after a few minutes of cage out. actually she doesn't like to be kept in my room for so long either even before. so she's trying to approach the door. but I can't let her out not until 10 days (her suture is not the dissolve type) she already ate the small amount of food I gave her but doesn't drink water yet. she just sleeps then walk a bit and go back to rest again.
all her medication is injectable so it's hassle free and I paid extra for it. vet said the pain medication will last until 2 days. I probably won't sleep tonight just so I could look after her. and by the time I have leave the room, my brother is relieving me from my duty. about the e collar, won't she feel stress with it? she's not the type to behave on it. does bandage help? the vet said if she happen to lick or scratch the incision, take her to the clinic. so far I can still discourage her whenever she attempts to.
thank you for the advice and yes I'll call the vet right away if something bothers me!

Hi Cat,

Yes the panting  may have been from needing pain meds. I hope your vet has given some for home use if needed. Usually given in pre-filled syringes, so as not to  overdose.
Since she has been given antibiotics that should help with infection, and the pain meds should last for a while.

She should have a SOFT E collar --ask your vet for one. This is so when you are not there she will not pull at stitches, scratch or lick the wound.

Franky , the pain mwds, antibiotics and e collar should have been given to you when you left after surgery for home use. They will sometimes keep kittens for 24 hours after surgery until they begin eating, peeing and pooping ---drugs take a while to wear off , so it is no wonder she could not stand. She will eventually get her strength back. She needs to eat, Get some lamb , beef or chicken baby food . Put some on your finger and let her lick this off. Once she begins eating a little bit more each time switch back to the kitten food you were feeding her "Pate" preferably. No hard food, k.

Keep her quit in her cage or room with no things to climb. Bedding, food water, litter box. Play some soft music and visit with her a lot talk to her and pet her. She will come around within a few days.

ANY thing you are concerned about do not hesitate to call your vet, ok?
That is what they get paid for and any complications are their responsibility to make right.

Wishing your little angel a speedy recovery. Try not to worry and keep us posted here until she is out of the woods. That is what we are here for.

Best wishes and prayers for both of you.
