This sounds like a bowel obstruction, which can happen with hairballs. Your cat may start vomiting and become dehydrated. Sorry, if this sounds harsh to you-but, I am not good at "sugar-coating" the truth. The ONLY way this can be fixed is with the vet clearing the obstruction, nothing you can do for this on your own. This could've been prevented EASILY with some petroleum jelly or hairball remedy everyday. If this had been done, it would've prevented much suffering that your cat is now going through. Those simple remedies would've cost around $5. Simple, huh?
Hairball huh?
According to my own experience and what the vet has told me, actually two vets... is that FIBER prevents formation of hairball in the intestines. What are you feeding your cat? I trust Science Diet. The cat does poo a lot on this diet because is very high in fiber, but it works againts hairball. My cat has never had a hairball issue and when I'm scooping the litter box I see hair in his poo, so obviously the food has plenty of benefits. Try to research on fiber for felines and you wont find one article againts it. I'm surprised your vet has not mentioned Science Diet as a much more healthier alternative than enemas. The food is a bit expensive but the cat does get better if it's constipated and suffers from hairballs. You can find it at any pet supermarket. Fiber is not digestable but it runs through the body picking up all the garbage, including hair, and it finally comes out in the stool, which may be runny sometimes, but it does not hurt the cat.
Let me know how it goes.
im sorry i dont know of anything that can help you other than trying a free clinic...although the help there is usually minimal...try financing the bill some vets will let you make payments. other than that you and your baby will be in my purrayers.
