new kitty has diarrhea..

I posted about my news kitty, Scout, who so far is only drinking Whiskas cat milk and eating kitten moist food so far-she won't drink water. She now has a wee bit of diarrhea-should I cut out the milk so she has to start drinking water? When we got Spirit she was about the same size and already on crunchies and water but she was a shelter rescue, Scout was found under a board behind the shop.

hi there, to start with congrats on the new kitten....you have a huge heart to keep rescuing these little ones in need. have to be out for most of the day so this will be quick.
IMO its the cat milk, cats can't digest milk even so called cat milk...besides if she's eating than theres no need for it, keep offering the water, or dilute the milk 50/50 and keep decreasing the milk until she gets the hang of drinking just water.
good luck...♥

Yes, my system is to keep the crunchies and water available all day, just like my adults; and several times a day give her the moist but decreasing amts of the milk. i'm still not sure if she's drinking the water but she's clearly not dehydrated so can only guess that she is. I'd forgotten what fun a new baby is! everything is new and exciting to her, she makes me smile all day. Plus saving a life, what could be better?

glad the diarrhea has ended....
so shes eating kitten crunchies plus moist food? kittens need lots of nutrition, and with their little tummy's they don't take in much at one time...its been a long time since I had a kitten, but if I were you I would feed small amounts 3-4x a day...of the moist and crunchies...of course I prefer cans over dry if possible....good luck

I got her eating crunchies now and am weaning her off the milk-she had no interest at first. I got her to recognise it was food by first only giving her that for a few hours, then putting her moist/milk mix bowl right on top of the crunchies so she'd associate them w/food-and a few hours later i heard..crunch..crunch!! so she has her kitten chow crunchies in her bowl all day and am decreasing the milk. now what about the kitten moist? should i feed her that on same schedule as i feed the others so she's used to the routine or is just the crunchies adequate nutrition for now-i don't want to overfeed her. (It's been a few yrs and all my cats were on crunchies when I got them-i haven't had one this young before). And she has no more diarrhea. Thanks for help, as always!!
