I have an urgent question, I have chiari malformation and I have recently had a lumbar MRI due to worsening, constant leg pain, hip pain and increased low back pain.
My pain mgmt. office called with results and said I have nerve compression in L4 & L5 and they are scheduling transforaminal epidural steroid injections in the lumbar spine asap.
I am very concerned about this because others (including my pain specialist) have told me I can not have any type of epidural injection due to the chiari and the risk of it causing a csf leak suddenly pulling the chiari herniation down which would be very dangerous.
Does anyone know if this type of epidural injection is safe with a chiari malformation? My chiari has already worsened within the last year or so.
I am very concerned about this but in so much pain with the L4/5 compression I don't know what to do, but I absolutely do not want to risk an emergency with the chiari by getting this injection, the chiari causes me enough severe symptoms already.
I would appreciate any info. or suggestions on this.
Thank you.
