Book recommendations

2 books I have found particularly helpful have been "Prepare for Surgery, Heal Faster" and more recently " How to Be Sick".   I'm certified to counsel patients in the former, but I was never reliable enough to follow through.  I'm currently reading the latter, very sllooowlly, as I'm still very much in denial wrt chronic illness.  Especially when I want to garden ( which brought about this most recent relapse)!

The heal faster book is pretty much as it says, but discusses topics like how to best communicate w/health care pros, establishing a support network, relaxation/prayer (which is helpful in any procedure, including going to the dentist!), and--relevant to me--determining whether you are a high or low information person.  Lots makes me most comfortable!

How to be sick helps one accept just that--setting limits, saying no, asking for help despite pride, how to respond to comments like "but you don't look sick!".  Maybe most importantly, finding pleasure when it seems like there may be none--in music, art, poetry.  For me, it's flowers.

These are lessons I seem to have to re-learn almost every day, kind of like "Ground Hog Day".  :)

Thanks.
