Chiari Type I , Canada Ottawa

I am diagnosed for Chiari, Type I. Anybody had Chiari surgery in Ottawa? Any specialist recommendation? Please share your experince or suggestion with me. I am really stuck and I do not know if I should do surgery or not although the doctor told me I should.

  Hi...we do have a list for those in Canada...not sure how close u r to ne of the Drs...so  u may have to travel....if u have a Chiari Dx u may want a NS not a NL as they dx, u  need one to treat ur symptoms.

Make sure they do more testing as just being DX'd does not mean u should have surgery....

Rule out all related conditions first b4 u consider surgery.

I am from Gatineau and have been struggling with different symptoms for a couple of years. In trying to find resolution, I had an MRI done. The radiologist noted a Chiari type one malformation. After reading on the subject I was relieved to see that all my unexplained symptoms were common to other people with Chiari type one. I am getting the run around and wait game from the health professionals I saw up to now. They too avoid saying the symptoms are related to the malformation. I saw one neurologist that said there was nothing to do and he could not help me further as there were no way to link symptoms and Chiari. I have been waiting since June to get a second opinion with another neurologist from Gatineau (we only have 2). Can someone send me the name of a neurologist that knows anything of Chiari in Ottawa?

  Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

We do have others from Canada and a list of Drs that members have been to and liked...the list is in our Health Pages and make sure u click on Canada's list and keep in mind it is not a referral just a means to help u get started with ur research of Drs.
