Hi,,.,,those with Chiari are prone to RA, a type if arthritis ...and Ehlers-Danlos both of which can cause the pain u describe....
Have u had these conditions ruled out?
If the Chiari malformation is corrected is it possible then that the arthritic type symptoms in the hands could go away?
The malformation can not be corrected...surgery is just a means to restore CSF flow....and slow progression....
Surgery may not alleviate all the symptoms as it is only meant to restore flow and slow progression, but with many of us, once CSF flow is restored we do have many symptoms that go away or lesson.
Until u have testing to see if u have ne other underlying conditions there is no way to know if ur hand pain is deff from Chiari.
Thanks Selma appreciate you taking the time to respond. Tomorrow is my appointment with the rheumatologist so hopefully this will reveal some answers
Hi! My symptoms started with arthritis in my feet, ankles, hands and wrists. Tests are negative for r.a., lupus, lyme disease, inflammation factor in my bloodwork was even negative. Symptoms have since progressed to my entire body, pain and stiffness, hard to get up, bend over.. looks like I'm stuck and am forcing myself to stand. Been tested for MS & Parkinson's as well. Also have Ringing in my ears and pulsating headache in the back of my head when straining or extending my neck. So..yes I do believe that arthritis is a part of Chiari Malformation I. I learned I had this after months of dr. Appts and tests. Still have yet to have a dr. Confirm connection between chiari and my symptoms. It's very frustrating.
I also had lymes, MS and RA and lupus ruled out.,...well the lupus is still a contender....but I was DX'd with ehlers-danlos and knowing it can cause joint pains and cause me to feel stiff....I feel that is more the reason for those pains...and it is one u need to rule out.
Do u take pain meds?...OTC NSAIDS? they will cause the ringing in the ears.
I am not taking NSaids, but I appreciate your insight on the connection! I'm currently taking Sinemet with good results helping with tremors, stiffness and mobility.
