Clicking / Popping Neck after Atlas Adjustment

Dear All,

I had a minor atlas adjustment carried out by a seasoned professional. All went well but since then I have had painless clicking and cracking/ popping noises that are really disconcerting. I have been told it could take months/ years to resolve if at all. Has this happened to anyway else who has had such as procedure and how did things play out? Is there a way of reducing or switching this off ?

Thanks in advance for any feedback,

Matt

I am a chiropractor and see the phenomenon of "cracking or clicking" in the spine as we begin treatment.  My opinion is that we are breaking up fixation in the spine and this cracking will occur as we are working through a problem.  I liken it to putting oil and a rusty door hinge.  Initially there will be squeaking while you work the oil into the joint but as the joint gets lubber up it should go away.  Much the same with the spine as the joint fixation resolves usually the joint noise will resolve as well.  At least that has been my experience.

However, if you have Arnold Chiari malformation I would caution you how you are getting adjusted.  I would recommend instrument adjustment or maybe very light drops, but would NOT recommend rotational manual adjustment.  Manual adjusting is safe and effective for most people but might be contraindicated in your case.  If you were my patient I would not do manual neck adjusting.
