Flying

Has anyone gone on any trips before surgery?  I am leaving for Aruba next Sunday. Flight is just over 4 hours.  Part of me can't wait and part of me is concerned about how my symptoms will be in the air.  I have to say I was doing pretty good until I caught a bad head cold last week.  Now of course my head/neck and body hurts I'm assuming from too much sneezing and blowing of my nose.  I'm hoping to feel much better by the time we leave but still wondering what anyone has gone thru when flying.
Any tips would help.
Thanks,
Kim in NH

Hey Kim! Well, I had 2 flights yesterday and will get back on one tomorrow. I have always loved to fly and have never had any problems, not even with my ears. Yesterday was a little different though!!!! I did ok on the first flight other than continuous popping of my ears. When we got to atlanta we had to walk A LONG ways to get to the next terminal only to find out they had changed the gate and it was in a different concourse!!! UGH! We did make it but just barely!!! My legs were hurting SO BAD and then the HA set in! The second flight was miserable because of the pain and when we got to the hotel I basically just crashed!

Now, I told you all that so I could say .... If you have connecting flights, arrange transportation with the airport to get you from one terminal to the next!!! It would have saved me A LOT OF PAIN!

And like selma said we are all different! Just be prepared because I wasn't! lol

Good luck and HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, I do have CM. I was DX in November.  My head always get's really "blocked" when I fly and it seems to take a couple of days sometimes to go away. My Dr. said to go away and have fun because he knew how badly I wanted it.  I may have surWe spoke about back in November/December when my symptoms were at their worst.
I guess I'll just wait and see. Hopefully I can try to stand up often during the flight because I usually start having head pressure when I sit to long anywhere.
Thanks everyone.

You might want to talk to your doctor. I wish I could give you better news and info, but sometimes a change in air pressure can react very badly with Chiari/Syringomylia.

Do you have either/both of those?

HI I actually went to Guatemala prior to my DX......one month to be exact....but I did not have an issue with my head on the flight there, BUT I did start having issues with my leg going numb....it was the first I had this issue and it starting during the second part of the flight (layover).....and continued the entire time I was there...plus my sinus's really acted up the whole time too.

On the flight home I had a rough time with landing.......2x's...as again we had a layover.

Everyone is different and I pray u have an uneventful flight and enjoy ur Vacation in Aruba!!
