Oh how cool !!!
Another really important holiday in my household : )
Yes just like me! My bday is on halloween! LOL
Thank u for that summary of Canada's history of independence!!
I appreciate knowing it and knowing that it is celebrated so close to our own....it has always been an important holiday for me as my birthday is the day b4 and my grandmothers was on the 4th.....the fireworks and all the history gave our birthdays a sense of being xtra special : )
Canada Day used to be known as Dominion Day, the First of July, Confederation Day and July the First. Canada wasn't REALLY "born" on July 1, but the holiday celebrates the events that took place on this day. On July 1, 1867, the British North America Act created the Canadian federal government. This act stated that Canada would become an independant dominion (territory) of England, which is why Canada Day was originally called Dominion Day.
In 1982, Dominion Day changed to Canada Day after a vote in Parliament.
In short it's the Queen Victoria gave Canada it's ''independence''.
It is nice to learn something about our neighbors and friends, but especially since u all r chiari family too!!
May I ask the history to the July 1st date?
I find it so interesting, and the fact it is so close to our 4th of July....Independence Day....that too is special and I wonder how the date came about for u all......
Well yes our 1st of july is just the same as the 4th of july.
Our little town as a nice harbourg, a water park, a healt center with a pool and two ice arena, and a veterant park. So for canada days we have a parade in the major street of the town, then there is the rise of the flag at the veterant park with the national anthem, then there is cakes and all kind of activity for the kids at the arena and music for the others. We also have a traveling circus in town this week-end by the harbourg. And at night we got fire work on the water. Today is monday and it is a civic holliday.
Not sure what this is or how u all celebrate But I hope u all have a wonderful day : )
I have a friend in Yellow Knife celebrating Canada day as well....tho I dont know how Canadians celebrate it does sound similar to Americas Fourth of July. Is it the same type of celebration throughout Canada?
Glad you were able to par take!
