son is vomiting 1 week out from Chiari decompression

My 19 year old son had Chiari decompression last Monday, 8 days ago. He was getting back to eating fairly normally, some constipation, pain getting better, walking some.  Today he vomited in the AM, was nauseous all day, weak and sleepy, and threw up again a little while ago.  Has eaten nothing today. I'm on hold waiting for the neurosurgeon on call right now but thought someone here might have some input. Help please?

I  would   not wish  either  on  anyone  recovering from surgery...keep  him   hydrated and all  he  can  do   is  rest  up....keep  his drink glasses  washed...so he  is not using the same  glass  over  to  not  reintroduce  the  same  bug  back....get  a  new  toothbrush   etc....typical   bug/flu  standards   but  take it  up a notch....lol...

Let  us  know  how he   is  doing.

Hi everyone,  we ended up calling paramedics last night and going back to the hospital overnight.  He picked up a nasty stomach bug in the hospital.  He's home and better now, still nauseated but better.  This has been a tough road!   Leslie

May  I ask....you said  he  is nauseated.,.do  his  symptoms change  when he is laying  down  and  then  is upright?

  Is he  on  stool softeners?...

It could  be   a  CSF  leak....or  a  bug  that  is going  around....so  best  bet   is to have the  talk  with  his  Drs.....

Let us  know  how he  is  doing....

Hi LeslieAnne,

I really cannot tell you anything of medical truth about your son's vomiting. However, I can offer my compassion; I have vomiting issues frequently - even now, almost 3 months post-op. Let me know what your son's surgeon says. I hope your son feels better soon - nausea can be debilitating.
