I've got Shingles... again :(

This is the 2nd time in less than a year. First it was on my arm, now it's on the back of my neck. Obviously this is not good but does anyone know anything about this?

ps: don't worry I already went to the doc and picked up some valtrex :)

Stress always seems to have a delayed reaction on me as well....

As for the B-12 many of us with Chiari seem to have low levels on many vitamins and minerals...and talking to ur Dr and getting labs done to see if u r low and what dose would be good  for u...is a good idea.

I do take B12 on a daily basis...and I take the sublingual B12 which is a tablet u place under ur tongue and allow to dissolve....it tastes pretty good...and is a fast way to get this into ur system.

I also understand ur concerns with where ur shingles were this time, as we with chiari r all protective of our necks : )

You can take sublingual B12. I use 2000mcg of sublingual spray daily for my autoimmune pernicious anaemia.  I'm not sure if this method is as quick to work for shingles than injections but it is pain free. Always a bonus! :) Studies have found 80% of vegans have vitamin B12 deficiency. O_o Just be careful eh? :)

Thanks for the advice... I have an extremely healthy diet, about 95% vegan, lots of organic veggies and fruits (mostly juiced ^_^). I'll make sure there's some B12 in my other vegan stuff, probably the weird vegan butter that I generously spread on my toast. There's no way I'm getting a shot of B12 just because I've never heard of it, but the Valtrex worked last time so I'll stick with that for now.
The thing I was worried about was the place that the blisters showed up ( on the back of my neck) .... like what the hell else could go wrong up there haha.
Anyways, thanks, love<3

Thanks selmaS. I'm sure it was stress. The strange thing is that in both cases, there seems to be this large gap of time between the periods of extreme stress and then the actual appearance of shingles. That probably makes it difficult to understand for a lot of people who get it (+_+).

"Vitamin B12 is hands down the best way to get over shingles. I've seen nothing else work as well or as fast. It goes directly to the nerve root to attack the zoster virus. Ask your doctor for an intra-muscular shot that contains 1 mg of B-12. Get one shot each day for a week or until the symptoms completely disappear." excerpt from "Prevent shingles with vitamins, not vaccine" by Dr. Allan Spreen

Shingles is contagious to people who have not previously had chickenpox, as long as there are new blisters forming and old blisters healing. Similar to chickenpox, the time prior to healing or crusting of the blisters is the contagious stage of shingles. Once all of the blisters are crusted over, the virus can no longer be spread and the contagious period is over.

There is a vaccine, for those 50 and over...and it is relativity new.....

Stress can cause this virus to be activated time and again.....

I think it chicken pox for adult! And I know that it follows the nerve lines. But beside that I'm not sure! Good luck.
