Hi...and welcome to the Chiari forum.

Have u had a full spine MRI recently to see if u have DDD or stinosis...this could cause the numbness u r developing...it is a common aging process to get the DDD...chiarians tend to get it sooner or feel the effects sooner than the majority of people.

Other than DDD or stinosis, scar tissue could have built up over the yrs, and may be causing some of ur issues either by impinging nerves or blocking CSF flow.

Tethered cord or a syrinx could be possible too, but, I think u would have noticed much sooner the effects of the TC.....not sure the syrinx would have gone unnoticed that long too...unless it is newly developed from a new CSF blockage such as the scar tissue....??

Hello and Welcome to the forum,

I wish I had something to say that could really help you...I am in the same situation as you are.
The only difference is I only had surgery 6 months ago and as soon as I started to go back to my daily life, the numbness, pain and achiness appeared again (if it did really even go away). I did have issues with this before though too.
I know what you mean about hardly being able to stand it...there are times where the only option for me is to go lie down..a hard thing to do with 3 kids and now summer vacation.
Most of all, I wish that I could find the answers not only for myself but for others here too..it seems that too many of us are experiencing the same fall backs.

Make sure you get copies of all your testing..this is one advantage I have found for myself. There are things I have seen on it that I wasn't told about it and it gives me a starting point to ask questions.

I pray you find some answers soon!

Hello,
I had my chiari surgery just over a year ago back in Jan. 2009. I was doing great and healthier and felt better than I ever had up till Easter of this year. That is when I started to have the migraines again. Over the few months after I have kept progressing. Currently I can barely talk, extreme muscle weakness in my legs that has numbness/paralysis that comes and goes. Same feelings in my arms. My finger tips are generally numb all the time. I get blurry vision at times as well. Also have full body muscle spasms that I keep in line with muscle relaxers. I have also lost the ability to talk correctly. I can't always think of what I want to say and once I find the words it is hard to pronounce them. My coordination comes and goes as well.

As for what my doctor is doing about it. So far not a lot. I have had an MRI of my head to make sure the surgery was still intact and things looked okay. My surgeon told me that nothing surgically can be done and that everything is in normal parameters. He also sent me to a spinal specialist to check for syrinx and tethered spinal cord syndrome. I have also seen a local neurologist to check for a stroke because I took a bad fall a few weeks ago. Tomorrow I have the MRI to check for a stroke and the test for the syrinx and stuff are currently put on hold because it has to be authorized by my missouri medicaid and they are dragging their feet about it.

God Bless,

Dustin
