Looking for pain management solutions for Chiari Malformation besides surgery.

I have aquired chiari malformation and have constant pain and a neurologist that refuses to prescribe pain medication. I'm eating so much tylenol I'm going to destroy my stomach. Has anyone found a nonsurgical way to control pain?

Neurotin helps my nerve pain, indomethacin helps the bilateral neuropathy of my feet, flexiril helps me relax to sleep and tramadol helps with the general pain; this is the "cocktail" that keeps ME working.  BUT everyone is different and must be followed closely by a doctor.

Yes, a hot bath will really loosen tight, aching muscles as well.

Heat....heating pad to back of head neck shoulders.....heating blanket for the legs....warm baths/hot showers....loose socks and therapeutic gel on my burning feet and stretches help(stretches for the shoulders/arms/wrists/hands) and I tried to avoid sitting for too long and also looking upwards brought on the pain.

Hi muddlepup and welcome to the Chiari forum.

For me personally there were no meds that helped with my pain b4 I had surgery.....Chiari symptoms cycle and can also flare so it is important to avoid activities that can cause them to flare.

May I ask what type of pain, the level it is at and what all you have going on....ie- related conditions?
