Severe Cold/Cough

Hey all!
This may be a dumb question... but im gonna ask anyway! lol
I have had a horrible fever, head cold, and now wicked cough for like 3 days. I cough when i breathe, talk, or move! The coughing is making my chiari head feel HORRIBLE!! i hate going to docs since i have gone so much for chiari.. so im avoiding it if possible. Also, i hate taking medications.. idk why... i just do.   However, i need to do something to supress this cough so it stops making my chiari head hurt!   Anyone have any luck with Robitussin? I have some in the house, just scared its goin to make me dizzier than i already am on a daily basis!

  Hi..I am so glad u r getting the support u need from the forum.....I know it has been a Godsend to me as well.....and  the reason it is here is to be able to share with each other no matter what it is , if it is a question or a rant....we invite u to vent all u need : )

One last silly question.... lol
Is it safe to take Promethazine (cough syrup) w/codeine?  I just picked it up and was reading the pamphlet and it lists people that should Not take it. One of the things it lists is if you have a "brain disorder". Does chiari count as a brain disorder in which you shouldnt take it?

Hey ladies!
I gave in and went to the Dr today.   And the verdict is........ Influenza, Bronchitis, and MONO!  all on top of chiari!!! Lord, help me get through this crap! lol
He figures my influenza is ending since my ridiculously high fever is gone... but i cannot think without coughing! Does coughing just make chiari worse temporarily.... like increasing my HAs and dizziness or will this make my chiari worse in the long run? that would be scary if it did that!
He gave me some antibiotics... which after i came home and looked up... its one of those ones that they have the horrible lawyer ads for cuz they are so harsh/bad for you. I called his nurse to ask if i could get something not quite as harsh for my bronchitis! But he also gave me some cough syrup with codeine.. so hopefully that controls this awful coughing!! :( Im 21, but right now i can honestly say... i want my mom! lol   But now everyone is avoiding me cuz im contagious! Sorry if i rambling... just venting!  I think i shall order pizza. Been soo sick with HAs/coughing that Ive tried to have the bf cook me supper the last few nites... so far i have gotten burnt chicken and plain toast. lol $10 for a pizza sounds soo worth it!  Thanks ladies for listening!  Ive never met either of you, but I think I'd be slightly crazier without you guys! Whenever i have a crazy new symptom or just need someone to talk to... all i have to do is post on here.. and someone always answers me quicklly no matter how stupid my question is! Its really nice knowing that someone out there will always listen and care! You guys are amazing! I wish I could meet you guys some day!

  Hi...I agree with Pam, call ur dr asap....u need to get this taken care of or else it will make matters worse.

In the meantime, try shower soothers, a disk u place on the floor and inhale the aroma with the steam to help loosen the phlegm.
Drink hot tea as well and like we both said see the dr.

I know how bad coughing can make the headaches as it increases icp.  I would call your doctor and ask him what you can take otc.  This is especially important if you are taking other meds for your associated symptoms.  I was told the only think I could take was Mucinex due to all the other meds I am on.  There are lots of drug reactions possible and this part always scares me too.  So be safe and call the doctor.
