What to expect post surgery?

DHs surgery is on a Wednesday.  We anticipate him being in the hospital until probably Saturday or Sunday and I am hoping to be able to go back to work Monday at least 1/2 days, but would really like to work 6 hours if I can.  I've made arrangements for our 2 younger kids to not be here b/c if they are - he will think he has to take care of them (13 year old with high functioning autism and 9 year old).  His sister has offered to drive here (10 hours away) and stay with him for the first week during the day, but doesn't think he'll need her.  I know that I would be more comfortable being at work if someone was with him though.  Our oldest is 19 but he works during the day and our 17 year old leaves for college August 4th.

We have a HUGE house and he will have steps to take....  our bedroom is on the top floor, but kitchen and all living areas are on the main floor.  We also have a finished basement/rec room but he won't need to be down there.

What do you think?  Will he be ok alone or do I need to try to get him to let his sis come?

I don't think you are going to be able to go back to work that soon, whatever your job may be. It is not an easy recovery and you need all the help you can get. Take it and take time to recover.

I vote for the sister to arrive and help too  : )

We think we know how we will be or how we want to be, but it is no holds bar post op....and u have to give in and allow for help, and to rest, rest , rest.,

No one knows how our body will react or respond to the meds and this surgery, we can not plan to not have help....plan on it for at least a few weeks....

If he can sleep on ur main floor in a recliner, it may be better then going up to bed,I was better doing that the first few weeks.

I agree with soccero.  I was blessed to have my DH here the first week of surgery.  I don't know about the stairs.  I know for me, just walking to the bathroom was a chore for the 1st week.   I know some suggest a recliner to sleep in for the 1st week.  I was comfortable in a bed with lots of pillows to keep myself proped up. He will probably sleep a lot, but it would be nice to have someone there to watch over him.  That is so kind of his sister.  It also would probably be a good sister and brother time :)    best wishes to you all.
