I go back and forth between burning up and freezing all the time! I sweat at the slightest movement, but will be shiverring. My feet get cold and stay cold constantly!! You are not alone. I think we all struggle with it to some extent. Oh the joys of Chiari, lol.
Wow, I sweat all the time, too. Especially at night. I have to say my heating bill shouldn't be that bad but I am so miserable all the time that I didn't think about the sweating being one of the symptoms. Thanks for the enlightenment.
I live in my bath robe. It is one of those bath n body works softest robes ever. I literally feel like it reflects my warmth back in to me. It keeps me warm from my neck (Or you can get one with a hood) to my lower legs. As long as you are home, no one cares if you live in your robe. Well I don't care, cuz Im warm so : P
I dont have sweating issues as much as not being able to get warm. I freeze all the time. My feet and hands are like ice blocks. When I am chilled to the bone and cant shake it the only thing that works is to submerge in hot water. Baths are good! I can be sitting in a clients house with it 70+ degrees and still be shivering with a wool sweater on. Is just crazy.
I have also have developed sweating. I have CM with cervical syrinx & cervical stenosis. My sweating occurs on my forehead, neck & chest. The episodes are sporadic....one day I will have 5 epidoses and the next day I will have 20 episodes. After a few hours of this, my hair is damp & my shirt moist. It is 35 degrees outside & I still sleep with a fan directly on me due to the "hot flashes"!
I can't believe someone else is mentioning this!!!
I have not been told anything by any doctors but for about 2 years I've been joking that I'm in early menopause (I'm 29) - I start sweating with no warning to a degree where my hair and shirt is soaking wet, and it could be forty degrees out!
It was one of the questions I was looking to ask the doctor, and being a neuropsych major myself I was thinking about compression or something to do w/the brainstem, as temp regulation IS indeed an autonomic nervous function. My thyroid & hormone levels are fine and within normal and I'm not pre menopausal so I don't know... I've learned to dress in layers bc I've had to rip clothes off me randomly - there is nothing worse than the feeling of being TOO HOT and needing to get cool asap!!! It's so embarassing, esp at work! Not glad it is happening to you but glad I'm not the only one!

I was exercising one night last week, working up a sweat AND was freezing at the same time. I strongly believe it's a side effect/symptom of my syrinx. And at home, I'm always hot ... but finger tips, especially right hand, are cold. What's really odd is that when my daughter touches me w/her cold feet (aka ice blocks) it can send me through the roof. Just another one of the oddities we have to deal with.
Temperate climate would be nice, there is about 2feet of snow but melting here : ). But it was very pretty, with snow covering everything. La nena hits us hard in the pacific northwest so driving is crazy right now but I just stay inside(alot) and watch from my awesome view on the hill. So it makes it worth it. And I am using my old glasses so I can actually see the darn trees! Didnt realize how bad they actually were.....Im babbling!
I hate iPhone auto spell correct sometimes. I guess you guys figured out I meant chiarian, not chairman. Lol. Thanks for the input. I'm glad I'm not alone in this, that it's not too abnormal, but it really *****! My sweating issues and temp regulation problems are the worst symptom I have. Not painful, but impact my life in such a way that I've become mostly housebound.
I'm glad I live in a temperate climate for now. At least it doesn't get too cold or snow here.
I highly suspect I've got a thoracic syrinx. I have a paracentral disc bulge at T12 that is toward my spinal chord. That + csf flow issues from chiari would be the perfect mix for developing a syrinx there. I have burning pain in my mid back just in my spine. I also have numbness and spasticity in my rt foot, leg, hand, and can't feel heat as much on my leg, upper rt back, arm, and hand.
Sweating is a common complaint in those with Syringomyelia, not sure if that is something your have or not but it isnt uncommon with that condition. So It could be associated with Chairi as well. I believe Sweating is a autonomic response so it would be controlled by the brainstem which is often effected with the Chiari. I dont know for sure Im not a professional.
I know that a friend of mine bruised her brainstem and had this problem in her left leg. It literally could not keep itself warm. It would get a bit better, and worse. Her neurologist said the nerves werent getting that signal to her leg for some reason, and that was just the part of the nerves that were being effected. She couldnt even walk for a while. She had fallin on her head while doing a forward tumble and luckily has since almost fully recovered.
I however feel this chilly sensation often, get too warm then sweaty, then chilly, yuck! I hate that! You sound like it is worse for you though so I am very sorry.
Hi...indeed I can relate and I thought this may have been the Hashimoto's...I could not understand y I was freezing, but sweating....it was sooooo odd....and for yrs, I did not sweat!
It is hard to know what is chiari and what is something else when we have more than one thing going on.....
Last yr I bought UGG like boots to help keep my feet warm, when mine r cold they hurt.
Well I was sweating sitting still...so not sure...but do get lab work done to be sure it is not hormonal or nething to do with ur Thyroid.
