i get it too. PND I'm sure plus GERD bad combination. My allergies act up bad from time to time and they gave me a nasal spray but I couldnt use it anymore bc of nose bleeds.
I get that tickle in my throat alot also. I do think it has alot to do with post nasal drip. I have use cough drops to help it and I've found that eating something like crackers helps "itch" that tickle along with pop like denverluv did. As to the pounding, mine is alot like denverluv also, I get it with coughing, laughing, sneezing, going to the bathroom, twisting my body, jumping, carrying something heavy. The list is endless. But I just usually have to wait the throbbing pain out and eventually it does go away. If I've coughed or laughed for a while, the pain can take a day to get better, usually laying down helps quite a bit. Good luck to you and yours.
Oh I forgot! I would get that tickle in my throat too- like on the left side it would be this spot that felt like just that little spot was tightening up, itching and tickleing at the same time- and then I would go into a coughing fit. It would happen all day and esp. when I was laying down. Coughing and eyes watering, drooling and make a big ol' scene out of myself LOL- nothing worked to take that feeling away except soda. For some reason the carbonation helped to "itch" that spot and coat my throat. I had to carry soda with me EVERYWHERE- even into the grocery store. I don't get it anymore- but my soda habit continued. :(
I used to get this constant tickle in my throat and I couldn't stop coughing...it would even keep me awake at night. The only thing that sometimes worked for me is to suck on cough candies...but that didn't even work well. I found I just had to suffer through the spells and then it would get better for awhile. I am thinking mine was PND too or else something to do with nerve damage.

Thank u for your advice!!! I just called her and told her what you all have been saying and she is really upbeat today !!! yeah !!!!! she said she would try it, and that normally she puts her head forward...THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH:)
We also have gag reflex issues..many do not have one and if it is altered at all she could be gagging and not really coughing?
No worries : )

hi again ....she does have pnd but i dont think that is all of the problem. She takes phenergan for the nasea. No acid reflux ...yet...I really appreciate your advice.. kim
I get that pounding anytime I cough, if I turn my neck too far, going to the bathroom, bending over, or laying wrong. I have found that by trying to elongate your neck, or, conversly, tilting your head back, help to relieve the pounding quicker and make it less severe. It what I have found to help.
Hi...sounds like post nasal drip..which can cause those very painful coughing spells...and the nausea is a side effect of all that draining into ur stomach.
Many with chiari have this...is acid reflux also an issue?
I had to get an rx for a nasal spray that helped with my PND.....
