no surgical treatment

Ok so has anyone had any sucess with non surgical treatment and what kind helped? I have been on 7 different medication and non helped. I have also been to a chiropractor and physical therapy with no relief. I am so tired of being in pain that it has really affected my life.

Also what restrictions have been placed on you since you have been diagnosed with Chiari?

My symptoms moved from bad to horrible after three months of adjustments when my NL told me I had whiplash.    I can no longer feel me fingers or my feet. I have trouble walking and my bladder is numb    Please do not let the chiro do adjustments on u.

Also everyone is different but I found ice helps even though I have a cold intolerance it dies seem to take the edge off head pain.   I also use a mask at night since lights halo and strobe on me even with my eyes closed.  I bought a memory foam pillow and use it as well as a childs travel pillow fir my neck when I sit or ride in the car.  ( they are the c shaped ones and I found the childs size to not be as thick )

Good luck I hope u find some relief

needling or acupuncture may help...just make sure they know you have cm and to stay away from that part of your neck!!!  but having a syrinx, you may want to check into that....not sure as i did not have one.  also, heat always helps soothe me.  as far as restrictions go, your own body is your best guide.  learn to listen to what it is telling you and take note not to make the same mistakes twice!  my drs. never restricted me in anyway...quite the opposite.  even though my herniation was over 9mm, they kept telling me all my symptoms were due to depression.  until i went to see a specialist.  even then, we did not discuss limitations, because my body had already dictated what my limitations were!  while some of us may have some temporary relief from medications, to the best of my knowledge, there is nothing out there that can really relieve the symptoms all together of chiari.  not knowing which symptoms you're refering to makes it a bit harder.  but if you're refering to the h/a pain, i never found a thing that could touch it but time, i'm sorry to say.  perhaps a warm bath with low lighting or candles to help relax you or curling up in bed with a heating pad on the back of your head/neck with the curtains drawn with no noise or maybe just some light soothing music in the background will help.  what works best for one may not always work for another, so it's pretty much trial and error, unfortunately.  however, do NOT allow a chiropractor to make adjustments on you!!!  this is very bad for people like us!

I am no expert but from what I hear from alot of other Chiarians, and Doctors as well, going to a chiroprator is nt recommended and can actually cause symptoms to get worse.I myself have not had the surgery but my doctor has recently put me on some restrictions.
No Driving
No lifting over 10 lbs
No high impact exercising
No extrem sports (she specifically mentioned no skydiving) haha like I would do that anyway.
I also have a syrinx so I will be having the surgery soon, but have found no relief from anything else
