I have a ten you year old daughter that wets the bed nver in the day but i getf ustrated because i wa s told she would grow out of it by age 8 any helpful ideas
You would be surprised how many kids are still bed wetters at that age. It's a lot more than you think. And often it runs in families---- if either her mother or father were bed wetters, that would be common.
The issue is that she is not picking up the signal enough that she has to go--- it is not strong enough to wake her. She may be a deep sleeper.
You can do a couple of things----- first, the usual of limiting liquid intake two hours before bed. This does really help. Give her a reminder to go before bed. And then, you can try to get her in the habit of waking during the night by actually setting your own alarm clock, getting up and waking her, walking her to the bathroom and having her go. Do it at the same time each night and there is a good chance her internal clock will start to wake her after a week or so and she'll get up herself and go.
They do make alarms that beep as soon as wetness is felt. I've read mixed reviews of this.
Try to still be patient with her. She doesn't like this either, I'm sure.
I hate to say it but some kids do wet into the teen years and it is simply that their nervous system hasn't developed to the point of waking them.
I know it is really hard in so many ways including socially. Hopefully waking her will set her clock and she'll get up each night herself and go, good luck
