Kindergarten behavior

Just spoke to my daughter's kindergarten teacher and she is concerned about our 5 year old.  She has days that she seems to be in her own world.  They'll be lining up for music and she'll be zoned out in a book or looking at something in the classroom.  Sometimes she'll be in the meandering in the hallway at her locker before school while the other kids are already sitting on the rug in the classroom.  She suggested having her observed, but said since it's not a behavioral issue, it may take time since the older grades are higher priority than kindergarten.  She said that she has never had another student comparable.  Her preschool teachers also gave us the same feedback (they asked me to get her hearing checked as well).  Academically, I would consider her very bright (above average), however her teacher said it takes her a long time to finish her work at times.  She has always been strong willed at home, however I don't have these same issues at home (all I have to do is start to count and she responds).  Should I consider seeking out professional help privately, or wait it out within the school?

and although I can't be sure about the hearing - my son had reports like this in 3rd grade- we had several ear surgeries before and after that, but I never dreamed this  was from hearing loss- why would that interfere with processing information? But he acted the same as your daughter-

I will always wonder if the background noise was a distraction or maybe his teacher's voice was at an odd pitch to him- It was around 5th grade right before one of his surgeries I realized he was reading lips.

Good luck- let us know how it goes.

I think the answer to your question is in your own posting - "She suggested having her observed, but said since it's not a behavioral issue, it may take time since the older grades are higher priority than kindergarten.  She said that she has never had another student comparable.  Her preschool teachers also gave us the same feedback".  Yes, it is time to seek out additional advice privately.  I wish you the best ...
