My 13 year old son still wets the bed

my 13 year old son just told us that he wet the bed and wears pull ups (goodnites). I just wanted to ask if wearing pull ups is the right thing to do. Like he seems ok with it, the pull ups don't effect him. So here's the big question should he be wearing pull ups or should he be using goodnites bed mats or plastic sheets. He is pretty secretive when it comes to us asking questions about it so we stopped and just asked if he had an accident. He is a pretty social and gets called to sleep overs left and right luckily he hasn't been called for one since it started except for today luckily we were out. So please get back to me because I want him to be comfortable about it and I'm sure he wants to be too.

Growing up I had the same problem till I was 16, best thing to do is is wake him periodically to use the bathroom. Doesn't help much but as you can imagine for someone who went thru it i know it's very embarrassing. Hate to sound cliché but I eventually grew out of it. My parents never really took me to a doctor for it I was just belittled or beat for it and was told "im too old for this" so I know a great deal about how he feels on the inside I'm young so I understand if you don't take my advice but at one point in my life I was just like your son.... as a parent try to remember if he could help it, it wouldn't happen. Best of luck, I would suggest pullups under his pj's I went to a few sleepovers and had to do it. Lucky for me I had cool friends, hopefully he can have the same luck.

FYI...not sure if it's still happening but after years of suffering an MD told my parents about a hormone imbalance that some children have.  They felt like my body would continue producing urine at night and they perscribed me a medication called DDAVP nasal spray.  I am not sure if this is still around but I used this for about two years and then slowly stopped.  I didn't do sleepovers much when I was younger.  If I did, I would stay awake so that I wouldn't have this issue.  It was a bit rough.  I can remember calling my parents at 2 am a few times because I was so afraid that I was going to fall asleep and have an accident.  Good luck!

My step son is 11 and he wets the bed every night. Has for the three years that my husband and I have been together and years before. I can restrict liquids and make him potty before bed and it does absolutely no good. I literally have to wake him up at 10pm, midnight, 2am, 4am, and again at 6am and each time he has a full bladder. He is very hard to wake and is always disoriented, sometimes follows me around or puts on his shoes before going to the bathroom. When he goes in there and pees, I have to go right in behind him and clean up because he pees everywhere. He will hide his accidents and his pee clothes. He lives with his mother who says she has taken him to the doc, he told me that was not true. She said doc said this is normal, he says not true. We are on our third mattress in 3 years and our couch is completely ruined. I don't know what to do.

Hi thank you for responding. We are stoping liquids after super and make him go to the bathroom right before bed. Thanks for answering the pull ups question, and what do we do about the sleepover thing because if his friends find out everybody finds out and that would probably ruin his social life and would probably be teased over it. Thank you for responding and hope to hear from you soon

thank you for responding we took him to the doctor and everything checked out fine. We do restrict liquids after super and make sure he goes to the bathroom right before bed. Thanks for the comment about the pull ups thing, and do you have any experience on how to do a sleepover. Because if his friends found out they would then bully him and he would be left with no friends.

He should be using what ever makes him feel the most comfortable.  However, if this is somewhat of a recent occurrence, this should be checked out medically.
And, there are the common things to do.  Restrict liquids during and after dinner.  Set an alarm to wake up about half way through the night to hit the head.
But since this sounds recent.  I would have this checked out.  It could be a UTI and easily treated.  Its a simple pee test to find out.
