What are the chances of mental retardation?

I have a 5 month old child who had a double-stroke shortly after birth.  We started early intervention during his 2nd week after birth.  Currently, he is doing very well (looks and seems to act like any other normal baby his age) and is VERY alert and seems to think a lot, especially when shown flashcards with numbers, letters, colors and shapes.  My husband and I are concerned about his cognitive development.  What are his chances of mental retardation?  He's so alert!

i am sorry you had to go through that.but good things will and can..my 15 yr old son was suppossed to never walk or talk after a 3 lb tumer was removed from him,,he went into carddiac arresst and the also said he would never speak,,,15 yrs later he walks he talks..is deaf though and mild cerrebral palsey,but does everything anyother 15 yr old does..be strong and be positive,,
