Hello
My first post on here :) (although not sure if this is the correct category)
My son is 2 1/2, he is currently waiting to see a 'mulit-professional assessment team' at our local hospital - he has suspected autism and has a development delay of around 18 months.
Today he had a hearing test at the hospital. When my daughter had her hearing test she was seen by a hearing specialist and no other doctors. However, today my son was seen by a hearing specialist, senior consultant pediatrician and a registrar pediatrician, all were present during the hearing examination.
I was a little shocked to have all these doctors present for a straight forward hearing test and the test did not happen like i would have expected. They performed an 'Infant Distraction Test', something which i know they dont really do anymore as i was told when my daughter had her test.. they used some medical equipment etc.
Infant distraction test - "During the IDT, an examiner sits in front of the infant and uses a ball or a toy to gain their attention. A second examiner, sitting behind the infant then makes a noise at the infant’s ear level on either side. If the infant’s hearing is working normally, they should turn towards the sound."
As i wont be able to ask the consultant we are seeing for another couple of months, what are your experiences?.. did you have multiple doctors at your childs hearing test, did they perform just an infant distraction test or use medical equipment?
Oh, he also passed the test :)
Thank you!!
Carlos
