What is happening to my child in the night?

My son is 2 yrs old and he haves tantrums in the night. He will kick, smack, cry, and yell but yet he is still sleeping. These episodes usually happen at least 5 nights of the week. Is there any suggestions that you can give me or give me some idea of whats happening?

We went thought the same thing with our son who is now 4.   I never associated it with growth spurts but looking back on it now, that makes sense.  Sometime I would think that it was because he was sleeping so sound.  Not sure though.

We would take our son into the bathroom and turn the light on and try to wake him.   Once he was awake he calmed right down and would go back to sleep no problem.  I do agree that trying to comfort him would only prolong the episode.

We never really did much more than that and they became fewer and fewer.   Maybe he is growing out of them?  Not sure.

Good luck

google "night terrors" In my son they've occured while he was going through the growth spurt - seems that it was when his sleep stages because out of whack

do not try to comfort him - he is still sleeping and trying to comfort him can prolong the episode.

If I were you, I still would consult a sleep specialist or developmental pediatrician

Good luck
