how to tackle the obsession of buying things for a 5yr old

my son is 5 and half years old. he has this obsession of buying things all the times. even if he has choclates at home but he would insisit on buying them from shop. everytime we go out he wants to buy things. if we dont buy him what he wants he will end up throwing tantrums and cry his heart out. and once he gets it he is not even bothered about it. we go out so that he has fun but i have seen at the end of it he is not happy. for example if we go to a birthday party he loves getting a tattoo done but the when he comes home he doent want to get it washed. he will not have his bath for two days so that his tatoo remains as it.i am really not able to understand how to tackle him

i have tried taking choclates to school so that he doesn't demand later but he won't eat that nor he is happy. he will ask for something else. he will find some or the other reason to go to a shop. his main intention is to buy things. it could be anything, a choclate, a biscuit anything. but after buying it he is not interested in eating those stuffs. i m really in a fix as wat to do.

my 3 yr old is the same when we pick him up from playschool we HAVE to take him to the shop or he has a tantrum well that was up until recently what i done was take the chocolate bar from home and the fruitshoot bottle(which was filled up with normal orange juice) and take it to the play school and when he mentioned about going to the shop i pulled the chocolate bar and drink from my bag stating i had already got him his sweets he now accepts this and is quite happy........with your son its a case of putting your foot down and telling him he needs to earn maybe some pocket money by doing little chores as in maybe making his bed =10p picking his toys up=10p etc etc  tell him if he does this everyday then he will have enough to go buy his own sweets get him hes own little jar to put it in.....only do the ammount you can physically afford though i do hope this has helped...x

Hah I have known most children who treasure their tattoos and I even remember one hanging his leg over the side of the tub for a week so that tattoo on his ankle would stay there ...so dont worry about that. With the buying , you may have to get tough with him there are let him yell ,distract him if tha'ts possible or stop taking him to the store until he knows he cant have everything he wants .You actually by buying everything for him are enabling the behavior. I know how hard it is to resist them though, most parents do the same .
