I recently had blood work done, these are the results for my cholesterol I do not understand them and the effect of each level:  I am 53, female and very overweight, I have mild/ moderate aortic valve stenosis and other health issues,
do these levels mean I am diabetic?  do they effect my heart?

Cholesterol:  122
Triglyceride:   213
HDL:               56
LDL:               23
Very Low Lipoprotein:  43
Fasting Glucose:   111

From what I understand from this blog, its not the level but the quality of cholesterol that counts and we should be pushing for more tests

I am about to give you some great advice here...Medhelp has a new site called "Ask a doctor LIVE" and i am going to encourage you to post your question there because you two can basically communicate back and forth live during the session....you will be able to have them decipher your results, give you recommendations on what they feel would work best in flipping some of this around for you and basically just reassure you.....i know of a couple of other community members who have logged onto that site and were super happy...we can talk to you till the cows come home as they say but chatting with a doc live time?  Can;t be beat..... good luck Cindy
