Its been a long day. I took Oliver to the groomer this morning. He collapsed and the groomer called me asap. She was in tears - she's been grooming Oliver since he was a puppy. She told me its time. Everyone was in tears.
I'm in the office at work right now....not being able to work. Oliver is sleeping. Our appointment with Dr. Schultz is in two hours and I will talk in depth about Oliver's health issues. I have to think about my little guy and his declining health. Its been one difficult journey and I don't want him to suffer.  I will let everyone know what happens.  Thank you all.

Hi Elsa:  Although I haven't had much to add to these chats lately, I have been following along, especially with you and Oliver.  Please let us know what the doctor says tomorrow.  I'm sending doggie prayers to Oliver!!

You will make the decision that is right for Oliver.  You have been doing that all along.  You are an awesome Mom!!

All my best,
Charlene

Yes, I personally think you are right in your line of thinking. I don't think surgery would be the right way to go. The risks would, I'm sure, be quite considerable, but your excellent vet will advise you along the right path, I'm sure.

Thanks for getting back Tony.
Oliver has been through a lot lately and its tough on his tiny body.
He sure is a trooper though....he stumbles as he loses his balance but he gets right up.  He is off the ear medication - that  read could cause balance issues. He slowly seems to be walking but he is not that strong.  As for the eye, I am hoping that I could possibly just put drops instead of having it removed.  I cannot even think of having him go through surgery. He is anemic and this is due to his kidney disease. In my thought process he has been through a lot and he is 16 and I doubt he would survive the surgery.  I would do anything for Oliver....but its time to think of Oliver.  I have a list of questions for Dr. Schultz for tomorrow and will go from there and decide what is best for Oliver.

Hi Elsa. Oh I'm sorry that Olliver has gone through these things. Dry-eye is often a difficult health problem to manage and treat and it is particular to certain breeds. I am fairly sure I read something about a promising new treatment recently, but I'm at a loss as to where I read it. I'll have a dig around to see if I can find it ... unless someone else on the forum knows or has seen it recently?

I understand your reluctance to put him through any more hospitalization. You have achieved so much with him and I'm 100% confident whatever you decide is the absolute best and right thing to do. You are a wonderful, diligent, loving mom, and Ollie knows it.

I forgot to mention he was in pain due to an ear infection that resulted in head tilting and drooling. He did a ten day treatment of drops and the ear drum inflammation subsided and so did the head tilting.
