Blood While Vomiting

Dear All,

I am a regular drinker from past 7 years and i am 31 years earlier i used to drink 240ml of whiskey  but from past few months my alcohol intake is been increased a lot and due to which in last one month i have puked twice.with no bloods

Yesterday i had puked thrice and the third vomit consists of a bright red colour blood nearly around 5 to 10 ml.

This was the first time i had have ever puked blood while vomitting and earlier i havent noticed and blood in vomit.

Today i went too see a gatro surgeon and he has asked me to come down tomorrow for a blood test, LFT. CBC ESR, PT & INR, HBsAg , HIV and a GI endoscopy so as to find the reason.

I just wanted to have an expert advice that one time blood while vomiting is a symptom of Cirhosis or any other severe disease. Or i am going through any serious illness or something else is happened to me.

In morning as well as in evening a pale yellow stool with some redishness is been passed in liquid state.

As i am very much worried and panaroid about this so would be looking out for the experts advice on my case that would could have resulted me to puke blood while vomitting.

And what can be the chances if i might have acquired any chronic disease.

Though from past one month as my intake was high and everyday i felt like uneasiness no body or stomach pain but yes some uneasiness were there in the night while sleeping as i was noticing that nothing is there in my body and the entire body use to feel very light weight.

It would be a great help if you all will help me out with your prestigious advice as off while the surgeon has given me a 10 days dose of pantocid Dsr which needed to be taken before breakfast.

I would suggest you follow through with your gastro as she/her is "the real" expert on liver disease or any other condition related to the digestive system. After she/he gets your blood tests results you will find out whether you need to be concerned or not about anything else including liver disease.

Pantocid is used to treat a condition called gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) which can cause regurgitation of food as you have discribed. GERD is caused by frequent acid reflux,, the backup of stomach acid or bile into the esophagus. The backwash of acid can irritate the lining of your esophagus causing it to become inflamed or bleed,

There seems to be some misunderstanding about one of the complications of advanced cirrhosis, called "bleeding varices". Bleeding varices is a medical emergency. When a person with advanced cirrhosis vomits blood it is not a few ml of red blood but often copious amounts of thick and black blood. People can vomit and lose so much blood that a person may go into shock or die. Also when a person defecates blood it is usually black and tarry in consistency. Red blood is typically from bleeding hemorrhoids not bleeding varices.

A person with such advanced cirrhosis will usually have other obvious signs of advanced cirrhosis as well. A good gastro can diagnosis the signs of advanced cirrhosis with a physical exam and other tests.

Often we anticipate the worse when rarely the worse it the true case. Follow up with your blood tests and gastro to learn if you have any reason to be concerned about having advanced liver disease. Talk to them about any concerns you have.

Of course the best way to prevent the chance of the development of alcoholic cirrhosis is to stop drinking.

Today i went for a blood test, LFT. CBC ESR, PT & INR, HBsAg , HIV. All reports are normal except the RBC is been reduce from normal range and Hemoglobin is also mildly affected.

I didnt went for endoscopy how conclusive are my test results as there is deficiency of iron and vitamin so the surgeon has asked to go for multivitamins for a months time.

After discussing with other doctors have refused to go for endoscopy.

Endoscopy is used to look at how damaged your esophagus may be from the backflow of stomach acids which is probably the reason for your vomiting and bleeding. Upper endoscopy can be more accurate than X-rays or other imaging for examining the inside of the upper digestive system so the doctor will have less information to help you with your diagnosis of GERD. Of course everyone has the right to refuse any medical procedure if they don't want it.

Since you have no indications of cirrhosis I would suggest you post any question you have about your GERD issues in the GERD (Acid Reflux) Community where they can help you better understand your condition.

My point is it necessary to go for endoscopy as i have refused it after consulting it with other surgeons not with the one who has suggested the endoscopy.

Secondly people suggested that to have a better view one must go for endoscopy. for proper treatment.

Are you sure that there is no indications of cirhosis as i am not aware about such things.

And please give your precious advice that wether i should for endoscopy or not.

We are not doctors. We are people who have or have had cirrhosis of the liver. Only a doctor can determine if a person has cirrhosis of the liver or not. Only a doctor can perform a proper physical exam and order appropriate testing to determine if a person has cirrhosis of the liver or any other condition or disease for that matter.

Only with an upper endoscopy can a doctor see the lining of your upper GI tract which will help them determine what is causing your vomiting.

Vomiting as you describe is not a complication of cirrhosis.
