frustrated need help please

I'm very frustrated. I need advice/ help. I've been sick for about 3 weeks.and don't have insurance until january. My cold started of with stoughy nose scratchy throat. Dry chapped lips and cough. My neck glands are constantly swollen and hurt along with my actual head and neck. I've been trying to drink lots of water and and taking supplements. Nothing is curing this. I also noticed a white layer on my tongue that appears thicker towards the back of my mouth. My corners of my mouth are burning on and off and dry. Even with aquaphor or carmex. They hurt. Does anyone know what can help. I'm sick of slathering on aquaphor and I'm tired of being on and off sick. Anyone know what this sounds like or what can help?? :/ please.

Thanks for your responses guys! The cold ran its course.... The lips are still dry consistently, most likely due to weather. Have a great thanksgiving. :)

It does sound like a could but the white layer n your tounge sounds like what babys get called thrush and in adults they just say it is excess yeast. my husband had it a coulple years ago the dr. gave him a presciption and it cleared up.Trying going back to the docotor and ask him if it yeast. Good luck.

Well, if it's truly a cold it really just needs to run it's course... even a Dr. isn't going to be of much help other than giving you a prescription to help relieve the cough and help you sleep.  If your chapped lips aren't healing with carmex or anything like that, you could possibly have an infection in your lips.  This actually just happened to my mother-in-law.  But of course you'd need an anti-biotic for the infection, which you'd have to get from a Dr. office.
I'm not sure where you live but by us, in WI, we have some small walk in clinics that are cheap... maybe $35 per visit + the cost for any prescriptions.  Shopko is a Northwestern area store that has these small clinics within their store.  Otherwise you can always go to Goodwill... not all, but some of them have clinics that you can go to.  The one by us reminds me of a "corporate" Goodwill or something.... they not only have the regular goodwill store but they also have offices in the back along with their clinic and a free Job/Career search area.  This clinic will usually ask for a small donation.
I hope this helps and I hope you feel better soon  :)
