Hi Shari,
Before any surgery procedure, the patient is usually evaluated and cleared before the procedure. An enlarged heart and history of palpitations and flutters warrants further evaluation. Several tests may be helpful in the evaluation such as: echocardiogram, chest x-ray or CT scan, cardiac MRI, nuclear heart scans and ECG.
Heart failure is usually a chronic illness, and it may worsen with infection or other physical stressors. Many forms of heart failure can be controlled with medication, lifestyle change, and correction of any underlying disorder. It is important that you see your doctor for further evaluation and management.
Take care and regards.
Hi Shari,
My goodness, that's quite an ordeal when you thought you were having a "simple" hysterectomy. Although, I'm not sure it's ever simple : )
After the surgery, were you referred for a cardio consult? CHF can be managed with diet, exercise, medications, etc., but I'd want to know if I truly had the condition. Given the circumstances of your situation, I think I'd pursue a cardiac workup to get to the bottom of that "diagnosis". If I understand correctly, you had no knowledge until you saw the report? If that's the case, I'm speechless........
