At funeral, dog mourns the death of Navy SEAL killed in Afghanistan

Jon Tumilson, a Navy SEAL, was one of 30 Americans killed in Afghanistan on Aug. 6 when a rocket-propelled grenade took out a U.S. Chinook helicopter. He was mourned at a service in Rockford, Iowa, attended by 1,500 family members, friends--and Hawkeye, Tumilson's dog.
The Labrador retriever was such an important part of Tumilson's life that the friends and family of the San Diego resident called the dog his "son."
When Tumilson's friend Scott Nichols walked to the front of the room to speak, Hawkeye followed, Today.com reports. "As Nichols prepared to memorialize his friend, Hawkeye dutifully laid down near the casket," Scott Stump writes.

how good to read a nice story ..this dog was a friend of the seal..when you think of all the nasty stories out there that some enjoy telling.... this is a good one ..
Dogs are such amazing creatures and it's sad, but heart-warming to read something like this. This dog loved his owner so much, which is so true of so many dogs. I always say my dog is my daughter and I would be so out of it if anything ever happened to her.

We have 2 dogs and while I get a tad upset with them now and then, I'd miss them horribly if something happened to either of them.

They are a large part of the reason I get out of bed in the morning. My life revolves around them, as you folks with children, revolve your life around your kids.
They keep me going when I'm down and know just what to say when I'm feeling sad. And visa-versa... when they're not feeling so hot, Daddy is there to make them feel better, with a belly-rub, or a game of fetch, or a doggie-treat.
I'm not sure I'd know what to do with myself if I didn't have them in my life. Life would be so empty without my animals.

I seriously had a hard time not crying over this story. :( We humans could learn so much from these loyal creatures.
My god, it's so eerie how our pets feel the pain of losing their owners...So sad but heartwarming at the same time.
