"Do you think we've been shock and awed?"..... That is probably the most politically correct way to put it, and I do think that we've been shock and awed.
"that is not what's supposed to be happening here."
Do you think we've been shock and awed ?
You're right, they shouldn't! They can fish around and have us buy whatever they want. They will tell us when its time for a raise.... that is not what's supposed to be happening here.
They shouldn't...I think they should have the same healthcare that is available to us....But right now, they ALL DO have better health care than we do..
Why should they have "better" care than we should have? We are paying for their health care...
"Why? Hmmm, could it be that if they had to have the same care as we do, someone would scream, 'socialism'?"
EXACTLY!
Why? Hmmm, could it be that if they had to have the same care as we do, someone would scream, 'socialism'?
Nah, it's probably just cause they're all hypocrites.
Of course they have health care, paid for by "we the people". I find it more than ironic that what they want to feed us and expect us to "buy into" doesn't come close to resembling the medical coverage they have.... It troubles me that these elected individuals tout how great this program will be, but they don't want anything to do with it.... Why?
True true, though they do all have health care paid for by the tax payer.
I'd reckon that it is up to us to effect change. But, when we vote someone into office, they have their entire term to take advantage of the situation. If they stayed and did their job, we could keep them in and hope for more progress.... if not, we'd send them down the river.
The position we find ourselves in now is (and I've seen and heard it here on MH 100 times) we are voting for the person we feel will screw things up the least. That doesn't cut it.
What I think we need to do is change the pay scale for these people. There was a day when politicians had a bit of decorum. They had some honor and integrity, but those days are long gone. I say we change the way they are paid and we ditch their benefit package. No sense in them trying to give you and I something that they aren't willing to have themselves.... (Medical care) If you were deemed a catastrophic failure in office, no pension.... none. You failed, so why reward failure? Nobody does that. Were supposed to learn from failures, but we sure as heck are not doing that.
How do we allow these people to vote themselves in for raises when we aren't getting any relief ourselves????
The system across the board is broken. We need to effect change, but then we have big money hiding in the shadows that trumps any of our efforts.
I remember a California that had free community colleges, free programs for youth, great roads and a med-i-cal program for the poor that doctors and dentists accepted. Things cost less and our dollars went further. The streets were filled with homeless because rents were affordable and programs existed for the mentally ill.
This was before HMO's began to change the scene of health care.
This was before Ronald Regan took office and it all began to change, horribly.
I cannot believe the sorry condition of our state is because of programs for the people because there used to be more of them and they were better. No, the problems are connected to things like a trickle down theory of economics.
Giving it all to the wealthy has only taken from the poor and middle class.
The idea of de-regulation was supposed to create more jobs. But all it did was take away oversight.
I do agree that politicians voting to increase their own salaries while expecting everyone else to do on less, is a problem, but it is only the symptom of a very sick society.
You are right, the politicians aren't willing or aren't able to change.
So, what will create change ??
As taxed as California is, they are simply using more money than they are taking in. All of the hand outs/entitlement programs are killing the state, so taxes are raised and jobs move out of the state.... as some jobs leave, so do employees. As employees leave, so does their tax money.
California is a perfect example as to how you cannot spend yourself out of debt.
There is an inability for people in politics (governors, mayors more locally) to make difficult calls regarding spending. We've heard of a few towns in California whose mayor and town council were making 6 digit incomes and the very same towns infrastructure had gone kaput....
Inability or greed. Perhaps it is entitlement.... maybe its a combo platter of all 3 that are killing California. The problem with any of that is, politicians aren't willing to change.
Pelosi might not be the reason California is broke, but she has never helped the situation there. She launched her attack on the nation rather than her home state.
California is the perfect example of how you cannot spend your way out of debt. They've been trying it for years, and even recently the benevolent Governor Brown eluded to that fact. (He didn't come out right and say it, but he did say they are spending too much money.)
I'm no fan of Pelosi's but she is not the reason California is broke, I wish it were only that simple.
Thank goodness he has Mrs. Pelosi on his side. (California is broke.)
You know, The President may not be some people's cup of tea BUT, he IS trying to do things that will benefit the American people..
