Texas Contractors Say Playing By The Rules Doesn't Pay
Part 2 of the Morning Edition report on the Texas constructon industry.

".........Let's say you own a big Texas construction firm, and you want to run your business the right way. You try your darndest to hire only legal workers and pay them a decent salary plus benefits.
Most importantly you pay all your taxes, Social Security, unemployment — everything you're supposed to — just like a normal company in other industries.
So, how's that working out?
"There's no way you can compete," says Stan Marek, CEO of the Marek Family of Companies, one of the largest commercial interior contractors in Texas. They've been in business 75 years, but Marek says the past four have been extremely difficult.
"When someone is paying less per hour, no workman's comp, no payroll taxes, [no] unemployment — we can't overcome that," he says........."

People that hire Illegal Immigrants.
People that hire Illegal Immigrants.
Since the overhead is so much lower then it is possible to sell these homes for $160,000. If they paid a living wage, taxes etc. then housing costs would double or triple. Is that the idea?
The workers and the Government (the ppl, in the end) are getting ripped off. So build smaller houses. (Who needs a freaking 5 bedroom house?)
Any house selling for more than 100,000 automatically gets a 10% tax.
I don't know, I have no experience in this area, just playing with ideas.
What I do know is the American dream of recent times is over. We need to start downsizing and people need to get paid for a days work.
How can I look at a life of stealing from hard working people so people can pretend to live in luxury, feeding their fantasies of wealth while I have a expand my bank account?
What kind of life is that? What kind of people do this?
