2013 Municipal Election

Just wanted to share my excitement with you all.  I know that our municipal election has no interest really outside of my city, however, I am super happy to say that all 3 of my picks when I cast my ballot won!!!  Mayor Naheed Nenshi, my city councillor Gian Carro and even my pick in School trustee Judy Hehr all won!!  Whoohoooo...happy day for me.

It's pretty interesting though.  My province is uber conservative compared to the rest of the country.  We have only had a Conservative Premiere for something like 90 years.  Yet our incumbent Mayor who is Liberal, Muslim and supposedly gay won by a landslide!!!  2nd term and he got 75% of the vote.  The incumbent councillor for my ward is very very moderate, but stands on the Conservative side.  Our Mayor endorsed our Councillor, they work very well together and everyone is happy.  Yes, bipartisan politics CAN work.  Wanted to give you that - it can absolutely happen, so keep the faith!!  Anyway, celebrating tonight as again, they were all folks I voted for and I love it when my picks win!!!

Thanks ladies.  It is a good week!

I posted this to point out that political parties can do this and I'm glad it gave you some hope.  Maybe your politicians are starting to come around after the reaction of people to this gov't shutdown.  I hope they do and that you see the moderates on both sides begin to speak up!

Glad your picks won!  And yes, we need hope here.  We really need to believe that those with different views can find a way to move forward rather than letting the fighting thwart any effort to progress through difficult times.

So, thanks for the bit of hope!  And congrats.
