AP Exclusive: Taliban say buildup under way

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan (AP) - The Taliban are moving fighters into Kandahar, planting bombs and plotting attacks as NATO and Afghan forces prepare for a summer showdown with insurgents, according to a Taliban commander with close ties to senior insurgent leaders. NATO and Afghan forces are stepping up operations to push Taliban fighters out of the city, which was the Islamist movement's headquarters during the years it ruled most of Afghanistan. The goal is to bolster the capability of the local government so that it can keep the Taliban from coming back.

The more you fight a race of people the more people from that race begin to want to fight back. By now you imagine the Taliban would have far less memebers. But I doubt it. It all depends on the view of normal Afghans. They could have lost innocent victims to bombs that went astray or could wonder what all the fighting was ever for by now. They see their lives as much worse. Who do they blame? The invading forces. So they go out and want to fight back. Plus you have others from other countries coming to join the Taliban to fight the Americans. It will just continue on and on. I don't think troops can just pull out. That would lead world lords running riot. It is a situation that I can't see any answer for. The country will always have to be policed. What seemed so easy at first now looks like one long mess that will continue for years.

Unfortunately more and more its showing why the war in the mid east is not winnable. The safety of America should be preserved but means should be taken to gradually withdrawn the troops at the same time. At the beginning there were clear signs of a retreat of the Taliban and after that at some point that stopped and there have been no signs of progress since then and that is of concern especially for the troops. Whatever is done should be in America's best interest.
