Ashley Judd, future senator?

http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/ashley-judd-future-senator-171816732--election.html

Ashley Judd, an actress and philanthropist (AIDS prevention, reproductive health), would not rule out a future campaign against Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., on Friday.

The Louisville Courier-Journal reported Judd is eying McConnell's Senate seat, which is up for grabs in 2014. Judd campaigned for President Barack Obama in 2012 and, in 2008, she appeared in an environmental ad campaign for the Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund, in which she was critical of Sarah Palin's position on wildlife protection in Alaska.

College basketball fans will also recognize Judd, who has starred in films including "Double Jeopardy" and "Kiss the Girls," as a ubiquitous presence at men's basketball games at her alma mater, the University of Kentucky.

McConnell, who's been instrumental in upholding the Senate GOP's opposition to Obama's health care overhaul, has long been the scourge of Democrats. During negotiations for financial regulatory reform, he kept his party united in opposition until Republican Sens. Scott Brown and Olympia Snowe, who are leaving the chamber next year, and Susan Collins all crossed party lines to push the Dodd-Frank financial regulation bill to Obama's desk in 2010.

McConnell won re-election by 6 points in a closely fought race in 2008. He is married to Elaine Chao, who was George W. Bush's labor secretary for two terms, and the Washington power couple are prolific fundraisers for conservative candidates and causes. In 2008, McConnell's campaign outspent Democrat Bruce Lunsford by about $10 million.

After his re-election, McConnell had pledged to make Obama a one-term president, which became a rallying cry for embattled Democrats on the campaign trail.

McConnell is Kentucky's longest-serving senator in state history. He won his first race by 5,200 ballots, or 0.4 percent of all ballots cast, in 1984. Roger Ailes, president of Fox News, worked on the '84 campaign.

Kentucky hasn't had a Democratic senator since Wendell H. Ford retired in 1999 after a 24-year Senate career. Kentucky has voted for national Republican candidates every four years since Bill Clinton won the state and a second term in 1996.

I think Sarah is smart. She believes in her principals and didn't take $hit from anyone. I respect that!..She just needs to brush up on the history of AMERICA and everything about America and she'll be all set!...

Palin and idiot?  No, not an idiot but she is missing a few characteristics that are necessary to be in the public light all of the time.  Speaking off the cuff is not a strong point of hers, but it is something that can be learned.  (That's why people in politics surround themselves with various people... all skilled in certain aspects of life/business.)  Almost every time they cut Biden loose, he is almost certain to butcher something.... (If a republican said something along the lines of Biden's "they want to put yall back in chains" they'd have been hung at high noon.)

Ms. Judd doesn't strike me as someone who can maneuver the political mine field, but who knows.  Her affiliation with the Defenders of Wildlife bothers me a little bit.  Not a very reputable organization, in my own opinion.

I'm one of the ones above that mentioned Palin's lack of intelligence.  Now let me just clarify.  I realize that she is educated and frankly, is/was pretty darn successful in her career.  I will give her that and she deserves it.  Not everyone that 'wants' to become govenor can and she did it!

However, I think she lacks a certain intellect that I do look for in government officals.  She is not polished and always seemed very out of her element.  Polish isn't that important but the ability to think off the cuff didn't seem to be her strong suit and that really worries me.  Makes me think that she would have difficulty thinking on her own if need be.

So, she is not a dumby but to hit the national scene and try to take it on was a mistake for Palin.  I really believe she lost the election for McCain.

And this was further proven to me when she became such a horrible, money grabbing media hound after that.

I personally do find her embarressing. That is my own opinion of hers and not meant to insult anyone that likes her.

but she IS educated and went far in her career which is to her own credit.  Just my thoughts.

Because you have to be an idiot to vote for someone who is not smart.

LOL- That would make a hell of a lot of idiots in this country!! :)

I knew someone who's sister lived in the same town as Palin. My friend's niece good friends and went to school with Palin's daughter.
All she had to say about the Palin was that she was very odd, very strange, and she always felt very sorry for the daughter~ Bristol..

Having a college diploma doesn't show intelligence. It shows the ability to pass tests, which is not sadly, the same as being able to think.

She has charisma of a kind but if she were smart, she wouldn't say the things she does.

End of comment on the topic.

Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund..... Stop it right there and look into this group.  She needs to continue to be an actress and philanthropist and keep her beak out of politics.  Democrats?  Find someone else to challenge McConnell, please?

I wouldn't kick her out of bed, THAT'S for sure!!!

I'll 2nd your "Need more nude scenes" remark. If only her ears were a little bigger, and the top of her head was a little flatter...

To some earlier points made, I am tired of people questioning the intelligence of Palin. She has a college degree, and she was a Governor of a state and ran the state very well. So think before you speak. You may not like what she has to say or the way she says it but she is higly intellgent.

As for Ashley, only thing I want to see from her is more nude scenes. You agree with me EL don't you...LOL.

Dear Democrats,

Don't worry about being embarrassed... I'll be embarrassed FOR you.

You can do better.

Sincerely,

ELMO

P.S.- Please don't confuse an Oscar, popularity, good acting, affluence, stunning good looks and democratic party affiliation, with intelligence.

Wish ? I just said the more I'm reading about her the more I like, but I don't know enough about her to know whether I'd like her to run.

Either way she won't be running in my state, so my opinion is moot.

People often mistake actors for being who they are in their roles, especially  if they are good actors, however they are not their roles.

All politicians running for office in these times have to be actors to some extent. Someone who has great ideas and can organize a fabulous team will not get elected if they are not ugly, shy and introverted.

As far as taking someone seriously, Bush was dyslexic, it runs in his family~ seriously. The man could hardly put together a sentence without making it into a joke, unintentionally.

Maybe it's because I live in California but actors can be as good a politician as anyone else. I didn't vote for him but many people loved Regan.

What's wrong with someone being passionate in their beliefs ?

I read where Judd  went up against Palin for slaughtering animals from a helicopter. Good for her.
My husband grew up hunting and believes in humane hunting. He was taught by his family that you only take a shot if you feel certain it will kill the animal.  Hunting from a helicopter is slaughter.

The more I read about Judd, the more I like her.

Weird how I can go from being fairly articulate to a bumbling bimbo in the wink of an eye...you ever get that?

She had nothing to do with PETA ..Ng used that as an example of extremism in nearly the same sentence with Ashley Judd, which if I didn't know Ng better I would say she was using persuasive language to make a point...
