You are absolutely right on! We are not hearing much other than generalizations about the people there. More attention definately needs brought to the human element going on there. All of this is such a disaster and are no words to describe the feelings as a result of it. But is quite another to be on the front lines, losing everything you have ever known, virtually overnite and thru no fault of your own, and for (no one knows how long into the future!). I can certainly understand how violence can start as a result!
Well, there are a lot of places in the bayou where a person can get "lost" and never seen again! By accident of course!! Wink wink
What I meant by “Don’t be surprised if this thing becomes violent.” If some BP’s become Crab Food, don’t be surprised. People can only take so much.
I hope it doesn't get violent!! Maybe they can stop the thieves before they get shot! But my granddaddy who was born in North Louisiana used to say "some folks need killing!".
Do you recall the trouble that erupted on the Texas coast between the shrimpers and the Vietnamese immigrants? The Vietnamese were over fishing and taking in well over their quota on shrimp. Well, you know what that means. And things got ugly. There were shootings on both sides of it. What made me mad was that the press portrayed it as the mean redneck immigrant-phobic Texans were mercilessly slaughtering the poor little Vietnamese for no reason other than the fact they we were redneck mean immigrant-phobic Texans. Never bothered to look at the facts. Never bothered to find out what happens when you over fish an area or take in too many shrimp from an area. The long time shrimpers also had long standing unspoken agreements among themselves about territory where they fished or shrimped. I don't think the shrimping territories were a legal agreement but these guys worked on hand shakes. Much as I'm sure many folks from Louisiana do.
My last trip to South Padre Island, I was talking to a bunch of shrimpers on the dock. Boy are they worked up over the Mexican boats coming into American waters to shrimp. South Padre is right on the border. You can't get much closer. If our shrimpers go into Mexican waters, the boat is confiscated and the shrimpers arrested. Our government will not protect our coastal shrimpers. And boy were they mad!! This was a couple of years ago. I doubt it's gotten better.
So I have seen this stuff happen. It can get ugly.
No offence taken.
Cajuns are the most happy go lucky, fun people to be around.
Someone can tell you a story and you will be bored to death. They can tell you the same story that will have you laughing so hard you hurt.
On the other hand, there has been a many camps burnt down for stealing crabs out of traps and people shot and killed for harvesting oysters from beds that have been passed down for generations.
Don’t be surprised if this thing becomes violent.
Good Point. Apologies offered. Your beloved Louisiana is dying before your eyes. I'm just mad that the clean up seems to be a bunch of bunglers with no one in charge.
I'm sorry if I offended you.,
“these innocent creatures are suffering and dying.”
I know this is going to come across harsh but, I am in South Louisiana and we have an entire Human Innocent Culture Suffering and Dying. It is hard for me to feel sorry for Turtles and Birds when I see more media attention focused on them than the Humans. Call them Coonasses (Real Cajuns) the younger generation are proud to be called that, has had nothing but backs turned on them.
This should be top priority right now. I'm dumbfounded at how slow all this is going. It doesn't seem to be taken as seriously as it should be. Meanwhile, all these innocent creatures are suffering and dying.
These poor animals are already endangered. Anyone who can help down there should be allowed in these oil filled toxic waters. I am very upset of the ineptitude of both BP and the American Government in the clean up effort down there. No one is in charge on the federal level. No one coordinates anything down there. Just a bunch of bungling.
Sickening. I don't even know why BP is being allowed to bungle anymore than they already have. They should be behind bars and never allowed in our waters again.
If this is true, this is horrid!!!
