I don't know, Barb, I don't have all the answers and I'm sure there's always more to anything. All I know is I lived in Japan for 3 years and interacted with the locals a lot and they just seem a lot healthier than we are. Was it all due to the foods they eat? Was part of it just genetics? I do know they probably exercise more over there too with walking and bicycling, but I also know they smoke and drink (more the men than the women). They also work and go to school much longer hours than most of us, and yet, they don't have the cancers we do or the obesity and usually live a long life. Whatever they're doing seems to be working, for them at least.
Of course, now with that earthquake that damaged all those nuclear plants, leaking radiation, could cause health issues that may not even show up for years.
'If its that horrible and that bad, how in the hell did it get on the market in the first place? Looks like the USDA and the FDA missed a few things."

'If its that horrible and that bad, how in the hell did it get on the market in the first place? Looks like the USDA and the FDA missed a few things." As new information became available, they "evolved"....... note evolved as opposed to "flip flop"
I addressed HFCS in another thread...... sure it might kill you, but so will umpteen other things first.
"but the older Japanese still eat the traditional rice, veggies, soy, fish, green tea, etc." Yet my doctor tells me not to eat rice or soy, because rice raises my already too high blood sugar and soy inhibits thyroid function and causes my thyroid med not to work......not to mention that many fish have high levels of iodine, which also is contrary to my thyroid issue...... oh and let's not forget the mercury content of fish that will get us all....
Does anybody really research all the aspects of the food you eat?
I think they should look at high fructose corn syrup first. It's nasty stuff and it's in everything! And I mean everything, from your baked goods, breads, cereals, sodas, etc. I think real sugar is better than this stuff, even though too much sugar isn't good, either. I just think things are better in their natural state (like before they bleach sugar and flour, etc.) and butter vs margarine. Yes, too much of anything is not good but if you can at least try to consume things as close to nature as possible that's better for you than the manufactured fake stuff. Our bodies were made to consume things like that, though we adapt but I think that's one of the reasons for the increases of cancers and other illnesses.
If you look at places like Japan, they have a low obesity rate, almost no diabetes or heart disease, yet they tend to smoke, which is puzzling, but many feel it's because of their high consumption of soy and drinking green tea. They consume very little sugar except for special occasions and they use beet sugar instead of cane sugar like we use so it's not as sweet.
However, you are starting to slowly see more obestiy now that we've introduced more and more of our fast food chains over there but the older Japanese still eat the traditional rice, veggies, soy, fish, green tea, etc. Something to think about. I think in many ways they're healthier than we are and live longer.
If its that horrible and that bad, how in the hell did it get on the market in the first place? Looks like the USDA and the FDA missed a few things. With the sugary sodas, how about the butter alternative that is almost plastic? Yummy..... It must be real good for you.
Ban sugary drinks, ban fatty foods, what's next? That didn't work too well when they tried to ban alcohol back in the prohibition time.
Maybe more concern should be focused on getting a handle on the drug problem in our country than how many sodas we had today.
"Even to buy an assault weapon, the background check only takes a matter of minutes." Yeah, so..... most background checks really do only take a few minutes; does he think they didn't get an accurate check, because it didn't take a long time?
This is another that tickles me. They are so worried about our health that restaurants can only sell 16 oz drinks, but you can get as many as you like? We still have cigarettes and alcohol on the shelves which have been proven as well to be detrimental to our health. I was wondering how far it would go before it got shot down. As it should have. Oh the priorities these days, are ridiculous.
