"I only brought this up because it was already brought up when the OP said she talked to a friend and what her friend said that the bible said and the OP seemed to question that this was indeed biblical."

I really wasn't questioning if it was indeed biblical. I know the bible (a little bit...I know shame on me..I'm working on it..lol) I do believe in God and I do believe Jesus is the son of god and he dies for our sins. I was just dumbfounded by the semi hateful and degrading tone she used. She just sounded totally disgusted with the idea of a gay person being born gay. She basically said gay people are evil...I mean if someone says that's the work of the devil, that's a little extreme for me...

I believe God is a welcoming, loving, and forgiving God. I mean He created us right?! So is it, He created everything except for gay people? I mean I would think GOD already knew gay people would exist. He knew Eve would eat the apple and then give it to Adam before creating them right?!.. Yes He gave us free will. The instance with the apple is a choice of free will. Choosing to steal a car and knowing the consequences is free will. Buying those pair of shoes and hiding it from hubby because you know you have too many and really shouldn't be buying another pair is free will...lol.. Sexual orientation IMO is not a choice its just who you are and its the way you are born. We are all "imperfect people" according to the bible right?! It doesn't make us sinners because we are imperfect. Our actions that truly endanger other people physically or emotionally is what is considered a sin no?! How can loving someone (regardless of gender) be a sin?...

In any event, you all have made this thread EXACTLY what I wanted it to be. Adult conversation with respectful but yet different opinions..THANK YOU ALL:)

OH,

Hey you! Welcome back:)

"He said, life was much harder as a gay man and he couldn't imagine why anyone would choose to be the "different, the outsider", in society. "

My point exactly...

The morning is not a good time for me to discuss Theology. I’m not much of a Morning person and 4:30 comes early. I generally break the The 3rd Commandment, ""Thou shalt not take The Lord's Name in vain", when the Alarm goes off which forces me to spend much of my morming drive in Repentance.

LOL, How about I share with you. You can take the Old Testament (Since you’re a Jew) and I will take The New. If not, I will gladly take them both.

I completely and totally believe we are born the way we are born, end of story.  I don't believe that people choose to be gay and don't know a single gay person who claims it as a choice.  Just the opposite as a matter of fact..most I know fought it for a very long time due to societies general issues with it.  I can truthfully say I have no recollection of making a conscious choice to be homo or heterosexual.  Being attracted to men is just the way it was, no decision at all.  So I assume it goes both ways.

I have a very close friend who was married to a man for a very long time, and is now married to another women.  They have 3 wonderful children and are very happy.  She and I discussed the issue of bisexuality once and she said this "I just fell in love with whom I fell in love with".  So simple and just how she feels.

Personally, choice or born that way, I really don't care myself.  People loving each other instead of killing or hurting each other is fine by me!

I only have one question for you.

Please forgive me if this question has already been answered. I work long hours and spend a lot or time on the road so, I don’t have the time to read each post.
Do you believe the Bible is the Infallible Word of God?
I am a Conservatist but if the answer is yes, I’m going to have fun.

Take care.

I agree.
At some point mid thread it was agreed to take it to a discussion on religion. I found it interesting and enjoyed that we were all respectful throughout it.

I guess I shouldn't say 'evolved' as 'evolving' may be more accurate.

Oh no, I wasn't being defensive at all. I just thought you were addressing me. Sorry. :( Sometimes it's hard to tell when things are written down like this.

I believe many are born gay and know very early on that this is the situation.  I am thankful that our world has evolved to acceptance of others as they are.

I'm Christian and see the God I personally believe in as very welcoming and accepting.

And I'm always careful about biblical interpretation as it varies so much.

But to the topic of this thread, I do believe many are born preferring the same sex.

A bit defensive are we ? I hadn't addressed that comment to you in particular just as a general thing that I hear and tire of.

However, I do recognize what you are saying. Personally, I believe there are many ways to interpret the bible but I care not to be entangled in doing so.
For myself, I'd prefer to stick to the idea of our being our brother's keeper~
by showing compassion for all beings.

Time for me to get off the machine.
peace y'all.

The bible says He but you're right, I think that's just how He describes Himself but He's a spirit and so therefore not human like us. He actually does describe Himself as our father but also says like a mother who does not forget her infant at the breast, neither does He forget us.

According to my belief system, there is no gender (unless you want to dig into mysticism which is way too much to tackle in an authentic way)
It is easier to say He, so I stick with that.

Orphanedhawk, I didn't say there was something wrong with what God created. I guess I just believe what the bible says that it's not that He created it, that it's a choice we make, but we all have free will to make choices every day, whether it's in God's will or not or whether it's good for us or bad for us. But we probably will just have to agree to disagree on this subject as I know it's a subject that's sensitive to so many.
I have respect for all people, I do, and I don't go out there and preach on a pulpit or picket people or businesses or whatnot, I promise, lol. I just was showing why this OP's friend believed what she did, that it is indeed in the bible and the reasons why, etc.

Obviously homosexuality is part of the creation and I personally support any people sharing love.
What a great form of natural population control !

Mrs P~ I think a good gay friend of mine said it best when I asked his opinion on gays deciding to be gay.
He said, life was much harder as a gay man and he couldn't imagine why anyone would choose to be the "different, the outsider", in society.

April~ maybe he is a she or perhaps God is not definable in terms of sexual identity ?

I think just even watching a flower open and the perfection of a simple flower is proof of a creator who is pretty artistic! Or looking at how each person has a different set of finger prints and DNA to me is proof of a creator who cares so much for His creation that He wanted to make each one of us unique. Just watching the power of the waves of the ocean takes my breath away. I can't pretend to completely understand Him or know Him fully but I believe He's there and when I look at the beauty of creation to me it shows something of His character. I don't think we do Him justice when we try to describe Him because we still have so much to learn ourselves. ----------------------------------------------------------

I was going to try to just take one line out to emphasize but I couldn't stop-the whole paragraph is so awesome.
I am in complete agreement with you.

See, this is what I mean, rivil, I would love to learn more about Judaism and the history. I am always interested in history and I feel like I have so much to learn! It's all pretty fascinating to me and I feel like it would take a life time for me or more to learn everything I would like to learn. I have an insatiable thirst for things like this. It's just so interesting to me and I feel like I could talk about it forever and I know I have to watch that because then I tend to get passionate and people can take that wrong that I'm trying to get pushy with them and I don't mean that at all. But I would love to talk to you and mikesimon more some time about the history, laws and understanding of Judaism.

And I love what you said at the end, there, that miracles are in our lives every day, we need only to open our eyes. I do believe that Science and religion can go hand in hand and complement each other. I know some don't believe that but I do.

It has always puzzled me when people who believe that God created everything, then get on a bloody pulpit to preach about what is wrong about something God created.

Obviously homosexuality is part of the creation and I personally support any people sharing love.

My belief is love is god and that's all I've got to say about the subject.
