Breaking – South Carolina House Restores Planned Parenthood Funding!

This victory announcement was just posted to Planned Parenthood’s Facebook page:

“Overruled! The SC legislature – both Republicans and Democrats – voted overwhelmingly to restore the funds that Gov. Haley axed for domestic violence and sexual assault prevention in South Carolina. The funding is back!”

This victory comes after earlier this month South Carolina governor and anti-choice Republican Nikki Haley vetoed a bill for $453,000+ for domestic violence and sexual assault prevention stating, “These special add-on lines distract from the agencies broader mission of protecting South Carolina’s health”.

Governor Haley’s veto was over-ridden bipartisan vote which no doubt is an embarrassment for this 2010 elected governor, the first woman governor of SC who is infamous for making anti-women decisions and statements. Last month she vetoed a bill that would have provided access to young people to have the HPV vaccine, to prevent the spread of a virus which can cause cervical cancer in women.

In April, Haley stated on ABC’s The View that women don’t care about contraception.  She told Fox News “There is no war on women. Women are doing well.” She then accused President Obama as using the rhetoric as a distraction.

Haley’s approval ratings are quite low, and one reason she may have vetoed the Planned Parenthood bills is to improve her reputation for her Conservative base. Haley is a Tea Party favorite and during her tenure found herself under scrutiny for miscellaneous incidents such as nepotism and coverup, adultery as well as serious charges and a lawsuit.

I don't want to get into an abortion debate but rape and incest is something I have a hard time with and go back and forth.

As long as funding does not go for abortion, then I am 100% behind it. No state should fund or endorce abortion, it's not the governments place to do so.
