Far from Ground Zero, other plans for mosques run into vehement opposition

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/08/22/AR2010082202895.html?wpisrc=nl_headline

MURFREESBORO, TENN. -- For more than 30 years, the Muslim community in this Nashville suburb has worshipped quietly in a variety of makeshift spaces -- a one-bedroom apartment, an office behind a Lube Express -- attracting little notice even after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

This Story
Nowhere near Ground Zero, but no more welcome
But when the community's leaders proposed a 52,900-square-foot Islamic center with a school and a swimming pool this year, the vehement backlash from their neighbors caught them by surprise. Opponents crowded county meetings and held a noisy protest in the town square that drew hundreds, some carrying signs such as "Keep Tennessee Terror Free."

Here we go! And notbody? nobody saw this coming? Somebody better start some damage control NOW!

Actually he is an entraupaneur if my memory serves me right, a financial genius that helps countries, ours is one of them get back on track financially. I realize there was a big stink on fox news about him, so if you actually want the truth, your gonna have to go outside the box to find it. I have already researched this and am not going to do your homework for you, so have at it.

Why shouldn't we talk about Soros.  Given the definition of terrorist, I'd consider him a financial terrorist.  His specialty seems to be destabilizing currencies.  Charged for it in Italy.  Convicted in France.  And I still am trying to figure out why he wasn't charged as a war criminal after WW2.  He was a Nazi collaborator and is called a Golem.  (for reference, please see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golem)

And now he's targeting the USA.  Media Matters is his baby.  What is printed there is ok'd through this criminal and Nazi collaborator.  Actually I need to just make a journal on this guy.  His "resume" is rather extensive.  But to rely on his word, keep in mind his goal.  He wants to crash our economy so that he can cash in.

Ann Coulter makes my blood boil.  She gave a talk at the University of Calgary (city I live in) and when asked a question by a Muslim women in burka, Ann Coulter told her to go ride her camel, or something to that effect (can't remember the exact quote, but it was unbelievably innapropriate).  Let's just say I suspect she won't be invited back anytime soon.

I have already researched George, more propaganda. I think it was snopes that cleared that one up, and if you go to his website you will see his role, and it makes sense to everyone except fox. So go for it.

But the conversation is getting off track a little bit. Want some more on fox? Ann Coulter, decided to give a speech at a gay function or something and was dis invited to participate in uh was it Becks upcoming event as a speaker? I can go look it up if you have not heard about it. So it seems that Fox are against gays and must be a terrorist too.

Speaking of those in the media, here's an interesting piece on George Soros, owner of Media Matters.

George Soros and the Alchemy of 'Regime Change'
By Kyle-Anne Shiver
What does a very aged multi-billionaire do after he spends $25 million dollars to force a presidential election his way, and still falls flat on his face?  Well, of course, he tries and tries again.

When George Soros failed to obtain the election of his candidate, John Kerry, in 2004, he brooded for a while, even said he might get out of politics altogether, but he just couldn't stop himself.  He has stated publicly that he wishes to burst the "bubble of American supremacy," because he says our preeminence in the world is a detriment to global "equilibrium."  So far, he has failed, but he keeps on trying.

And Mr. Soros has made no secret either of the fact that he sees the shortest way to effect political shake-ups, what he terms "regime changes," is through very difficult economic conditions.

America has not yet felt the full force of Soros style economic shock treatment.  But others have.

Soros made his first billion in 1992 by shorting the British pound with leveraged billions in financial bets, and became known as the man who broke the Bank of England.  He broke it on the backs of hard-working British citizens who immediately saw their homes severely devalued and their life savings cut drastically in comparative worth almost overnight.

When the Asian Financial Crisis of 1997 threatened to spread globally, George Soros was right in the thick of it.  Soros was accused by the Malaysian Prime Minister of causing the collapse with his monetary machinations, and he was branded in Thailand as an "economic war criminal" who "***** the blood from the people."  Right in the middle of this crisis, Soros dashed off his book, The Crisis of Global Capitalism, which demanded a "third way" toward economic stability.

Coincidentally, or not, during the height of the fears of worldwide recession, then President Clinton told the New York Times that he was proposing a "third way" between capitalism and socialism.  Unfortunately for Soros, U.S. markets rebounded quickly, his predicted catastrophe was forestalled, and his brave new global economic plans receded for a bit.

This may have been to Soros' own good, though, because he was by 1998 up to his neck in the collapse of the Russian ruble, and buying up valuable East European resources at fire-sale prices.

And why not?

He had already been widely proclaiming that it was his own machinations that brought down the Soviet Empire.  When asked about his sphere of influence in the Soviets' demise for a New Republic interview in 1994, Mr. Soros humbly replied that the author ought to report that "the former Soviet Empire is now called the Soros Empire."

When our House Banking Committee investigated the Russia-gate scandal in 1999, trying to determine just how $100 billion had been diverted out of Russia, forcing the collapse of its currency and the default of its enormous loans from the International Monetary Fund, Soros was even called to testify.  He denied involvement of course, but finally admitted that he had used insider access in a deal that was barred to foreign investors to acquire a huge chunk of Sidanko Oil.

The Russia scandal was labeled by Rep. Jim Leach, then head of the House Banking Committee to be "one of the greatest social robberies in human history." (Shadow Party; David Horowitz and Richard Poe; p. 96)

Of course, Russia-gate was quickly hushed up and pushed aside in the public's lurid, and quite insatiable, interest in Monica-gate.

Then, George Soros did some more shady economic fooling around in France.  And he actually got caught and charged with illegal insider trading in his attempt to takeover the Societe Generale bank.  He was convicted and the conviction was upheld in 2 separate appeals, the last in June of 2006.  They let him off, however, with a piddling $2.9 million fine.

Mere chicken feed to a multi-billionaire.

Of course, since George Soros is a naturalized American citizen, it is difficult to imagine just why he would intentionally want to bring about our own economic collapse.

But from all appearances, that might be exactly what he has on his mind.

By 2003, Soros was already predicting the downfall of the dollar.  In a CNBC interview, amid a slump in the dollar's value against the Euro, Soros added fuel to that fire by stating that he was already selling dollars.  His statement, in turn, caused a further decline in the international worth of the dollar.

When George Soros speaks, hedge fund managers and world financiers listen.

Unfortunately, he wasn't able to bring about the "October Surprise"  U.S. economic downturn in time for the 2004 election.  Our economy proved too resilient for him then.

But he hasn't stopped predicting that yearned-for recession that would spoil things for his political foes, the Republicans.

Just after he failed in 2004 to bring about Bush's demise, he went right on trying to force a conclusion to his self-fulfilling prophecy of doom for the U.S.  And this year, it appears as though he may have finally hit pay dirt in the sub-prime meltdown which threatens to actually bring on that long hoped-for recession.

In Davos this year, at the World Economic Forum, Soros even went so far as to say that the current housing "bust" would signal the end of the dollar as the world's default currency.

"The current crisis is not only the bust that follows the housing boom," Soros said. "It's basically the end of a 60-year period of continuing credit expansion based on the dollar as the reserve currency."

Part 2..

Being that Mr. Soros' stated goal for more than a decade has been to burst the "bubble of American supremacy," it stands to reason that the financial gloom he is predicting for us would be precisely his own little cup of tea.

And if the economic picture is bleak in this election year, who stands to benefit?  Why, the Democrats, of course, the beneficiaries of Soros' 527 largesse.

And Mr. Soros, along with his "progressive" friends may stand at the ready to issue in their vision of America by strategically re-writing the Constitution.

In April 2005, Soros' Open Society Institute was the primary sponsor of a conference at Yale Law School, called, "The Constitution in 2020."  The conference's task was to produce "a progressive vision of what the Constitution ought to be." (Emphasis mine.)  When one sees references in progressive speak about the "evolutionary character of constitutional law," they are talking about changing the Constitution to formally enshrine their policy preferences so they can avoid the messy necessity of having to win elections. (Shadow Party; Horowitz and Poe; p. 71)

It would seem, then, that progressives stand at the threshold of fulfilling their wildest dreams right here on American shores.  With a Republican Party in disarray, the economy seemingly poised on the brink of recession, one candidate with the charisma of a snake charmer and another master schemer as backup, and a new Constitution already being planned, what will stand in their way?

These folks have designs not only on a reinvention of America, but on the whole world. Both Democrat candidates for the presidency have plans for an American cure for global poverty that make our current, quite generous, foreign aid look like a tiny Band-Aid.

Hillary's utopian plan is of a global village, where the role of America is that of supreme benefactor, with herself as our beneficent queen.  Hillary's plans for the redistribution of American wealth extend benefits not just to other Americans, but to every other country in need.

Obama, too, sees global poverty as the root cause of all evil in the world, including crime, war and terrorism.  His single piece of signature legislation in the Senate is a bill that would authorize an additional $845 billion from American tax payers to eradicate global poverty, and legislate a demand on future presidents to bring America in line with UN mandates on percentage of national GDP given to fight global poverty.

These plans are in perfect sync with Soros' own support for the Tobin Tax, a global tax on currency transactions.  This taxation would be forced on sovereign nations by an international body, coercing capitalist economies into sharing their wealth with poor nations for the eradication of poverty and the myriad problems associated with it.

So, that which we and our ancestors have sacrificed to build and maintain will be stolen from us and our offspring and given away by the new Robin Hoods, George Soros and the Democratic Party, who seem to envision global perfection at last, with every single soul living happily ever after in absolute peace and harmony, together singing kumbaya in the same language...the language of love.

And only God knows what can save America from being the sacrificial fodder for their grand, megalomaniacal delusion.

Saner heads prevailing, perhaps?

Saudi Prince Al-Waleed Bin Talal.  Information on his investments canned be found here.

His corporation does own a 7% stake of the parent company of Fox.  My guess is he invests his money in businesses that make money.  The other news stations are bleeding.

To move it would be admitting I did something wrong and somehow my religion is less than yours. You lost loved ones in ground zero and so did I. What makes you any more special than me? Multitudes of people died that day, not just your relatives but mine too. And besides the law is on my side, not yours.....

The question I have is what would be so horrible about moving it? Even the governor has offered land nearby for them to build this.  Why must it be a building hit by debris from one of the planes?  They could go a long way towards goodwill if they would acknowledge the victims of this atrocity.

I'm not claiming it's a good thing.  As you know I have mixed feelings on the issue as I really do hurt for the 911 victims.  I sincerly do.  But I had this converstation with a friend of mine yesterday, and she put it like this...

I am an animal lover and there have been times in my life where I owned more then one pet. What if a dog attacked someone in my neighborhood...not my dog, but a dog nontheless.  All of a sudden a bunch of people got together protesting pets being allowed to be owned in our neighborhood, and used this attack as an excuse because they disliked animals.  My dog has never hurt anyone, but still, based on their fear and feelings around the issue, demonstrations are taking place outside of my home and people are up in arms about it.  Would I not count on the law to allow me to keep my pets...after all, they have never hurt anyone.  Who would be right?  It's completely understandable that the victim of the dog attack might feel this way, but should I pay the penalty for what another dog did?

Ok, so it seems like a childish analogy, but it sure hit home with me.  Until there is evidence that this Mosque/Recreation centre is anything other then what it appears to be, it should be left alone.  If it does turn out there are ties to terrorist organizations or it is a terrorist recruiting centre, then it should be dealt with under the law.  But if we start presuming people guilty with absolutely no evidence, that truly scares me.

The Daily Show Probes Fox News' Terrorism Backer
Reported by Ellen - Tue 2:30 PM
Several Fox News hosts have pointed to connections between the so-called "Ground Zero Mosque" and Saudi Prince Al-Waleed Bin Talal as evidence that the mosque is connected to Islamic extremism. Yet none of the hosts revealed that Prince Al-Waleed is the second-largest shareholder in News Corp., the parent company of Fox. Jon Stewart put this lapse under the Daily Show's microscope! Were the omissions stupid or evil? We report, you decide... and have a good laugh.

There is still the same mosque in the area.  It's a few miles away.  This was Burlington Coat factory before it was hit and damaged in the attack.

I still don't understand how something that is causing so much grief to the victims and families of 9/11 can be seen as a good thing.

The bottom line in my opinion is this.  Every single individual should be treated as just that...an individual.  Until the day comes where we are able to see directly into someone's heart and mind, they should be pressumed innocent unless they commit a crime.  I have heard it said that this Mosque is a victory symbol...as if that is a fact, not a question.  No one knows for certain.  If it turns out it is being funded by a terrorist group, that becomes a whole different story and should then be dealt with accordingly.  If it turns out to be a recruiting centre for radicals, same thing.  But until that is proven, the law states they can build it, and that should be respected.  When feelings come up against legal rights, legal rights should win. That is part of what make countries like yours and mine so great.  I shudder to think what might happen if we start assuming people are guilty without evidence.  If it can happen to these folks. don't think for a second it can't happen to us.  I too feel for the victims of 911.  But there was a Mosque there before. I too have had concern over some of the statements made by this Imam.  But both the Bush and Obama administration have vetted this guy and he has been found to be moderate. Sometimes we have to have a little trust.

What is so frustrating to watch and see is how this particular issue is being used as an example of some sort of Muslim takover of the US.  It would seem that all these Muslims who are speaking out against terror attacks are being conveniently overlooked. And now we are starting to see crazy things....politicians talking about terror babies.  A resurgence in the belief that Obama must be Muslim...how they are getting there is still beyond me.  Demonstrations against Mosques in other places, and a Q'aran burning.  That is evidence that the distrust is turning to hate...for no reason other then someones culture and religious beliefs are different then their own.  That is scary stuff.  And yes, I do believe the right is using this to gain political power..I sure notice everyone is talking a whole lot more about these non political issues then the real issues that should decide who is your next President.  Perhaps it's all they have left to go on.

And as for the funding of this Mosque, there can be no disclosure at this point.  As it has been stated time and time again, there is no funding in place yet. They do not have the money to build. So how can they disclose that which does not yet exist?

I think you're taking assimilation in the wrong sense.  Are we asking them to abandon their religion, dress, customs, etc.?  NO.  But community involvement would be nice.

My children attended the same elementary school.  I had at least one of my children in that school for about 10 years.  During that time, I was homeroom mom more times than I care to count.  With 2 universities here, we have a very diverse community.  I always sent out notes to parents concerning food allergies and restrictions.  The only problem I ever had was with Muslim parents.  They didn't answer me so I assumed there were no problems.  I knew we had kids allergic to red dye and peanuts so I made sure nothing with that was served.  Only after the first party did I hear a complaint about the food served from a Muslim parent.  We have ladies from India who wear their native clothing to school and are just lovely and helpful.  But I got no cooperation from Muslim parents and had to ask the kids what they could and couldn't have.  THAT IS RIDICULOUS!!  The Muslim parents would have nothing to do with us.  I did try to make overtures but was just glared at.  And yes, they all spoke English very well.

That's just my experience.  Why won't they volunteer in the school?  OR participate in local politics or community forum and organizations?

You don't move to a new country and expect them to bend to your customs.  And when asked, you should reply if there is a problem.  Here, they keep completely to themselves despite others trying to get them involved.  And that does create suspicion.

Many of these mosques are being funded by Saudi Arabia.  The one in Tennessee had ties to Hamas.  I understand that others on this forum have no problem with Hamas funding a mosque but I do.  And so does the US Government.  And when the funding of  mosques is not disclosed, I assume there is something to hide.  The Ground Zero mosque Imam needs to disclose the funding sources for his mosque.

Another point, I'll ask again.  HOW is it "building bridges" between the Muslim community and the mosque opposition by ramming it through?  They know it's painful for the 9/11 victims and families but apparently don't care.  Personally, I can't imagine how painful it will be for those families to have to listen to the calls to prayer while visiting the memorial.  The last words those on the planes heard were "Allah Akbar".  Why do their loved ones have to listen to it broadcast at their memorial?  That is totally insensitive to their feelings.

Also very well put.  You express yourself so well.  And I agree...there is nothing good to come of this.  I wish people would just sit down with each other and talk...ask questions.  And not condemn individuals unless they have actually been found guilty of a crime.  I cannot imagine being convicted of something simply for my religious beliefs and/or my race.  What a frightening way to live.

And on that note I would only add, that we old folks need to pass the gauntlet to the younger generation, as it is they who will mold the world to come and it is they and their children that will ultimately pay for the mistakes of their elders. We need to get out of government the old career people and get some new fresh blood in there. Alot of the politics as usual that is forming this country is coming from people who have spent the majority of their adult lives in there and this is what makes all about politics instead of what is right for the masses. As with this instance of the mosque, it is more about leverage to win than it is anything because these tactics are the only thing that will work. I agree with adgal when she says it is a beautiful plan, but is it just and moral and the right thing to do? When and if they get their power back, the rest of us are left with dealing with the fallout. Nothing good and just can come of this imo.

Pajamas Media is a extremely right-winged media group. So along with FOX news, it can't be considered true to the facts and is probably twisted to fit their agenda, .... really isn't worth reading.

You know, in rereading Ashlens post, I think she makes a very important point.  Her generation (again the 20 somethings) do have a very different attitude and perspective on things like race, religion, etc.  Where we claim tolerance and understanding, they really live it (if that makes any sense).  They have been brought up in a multi cultural world where none of that matters....thank God for that!!
