Florida Sting Nabs 15 Men Looking for Sex With Children
Sheriff Grady Judd, Who Runs Multiple Stings Each Year, Said Some Men Brought Skittles and Condoms

Men between the ages of 18 and 67 were arrested in the Florida operation."One of the most shocking things to me is when a man shows up with candy bars and Skittles in one hand and condoms in the other," said Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, who oversees two to three such sex crime stings a year. "That's about the most despicable thing I can imagine."

Nabbed at an undercover, surburban home rigged with cameras, the men now face a variety of sex-related charges. They drove from all over central Florida, Judd said, responding to ads placed on Craigslist or Internet chatrooms looking for men to teach children as young as 8 how to have sex.

The responses were vile.

"One of them said, 'I want a 13-year-old girl to do gymnastics nude.'"

"One sent obscene photographs of himself which is not uncommon," he said. "Another brought vodka and Red Bulls for them all to drink."

The sting also netted a big surprise for one of the Polk County sergeants, whose team brought him face to face with the sergeant's son's Little Leage coach, who had come to the house looking for underage sex.

Another man charged in the sting turned out to be an assistant karate coach at a Plant City, Fla., teen center.

"So you never know," Judd said.

This weekend's operation was the second so far this year. Judd, who has served in the elected position of sheriff for five years, has been with the department for 38. He said the stings can be costly and labor intensive, but are worth it.

He estimated this weekend's sting cost between $15,000 and $20,000, including equipment, salaries and overtime, which is about average for operations of that size.

"But you know what, you can't put a price on a child's life," Judd said. "So if it cost $100,000 that would be all right."

"What we've done is kept 15 perverted, demented individuals from attacking children this weekend," he said.

Polk County Boasts Impressive Record of Sex Crime Stings
In April, a sting on child pornography led to the arrest of 50 people. Most of them, Judd said, like in the other stings typically end up pleading guilty. The average sentence in the child porn arrests was five years in prison and 10 years probation as a sex offender

"The case is so overwhelming against them, to sit before a jury of mothers and fathers while we present adult males sodomizing infants from birth to 8 years of age," Judd said.

Last year, Polk County arrested 45 people in a child pornography sting and another 34 in an online prostitution sting a few months later, according to local reports.

This weekend's operation may also have uncovered some previously unknown, yet longstanding predators.

"We had one that bragged of having sex with an 8-year-old when he was 16 and a 12-year-old when he was 21," Judd said, adding that the man's claims will be investigated.

This weekend's arrests, Judd said, should also serve as a warning to anyone whose children use the Internet, especially social networking sites.

"If we weren't arresting these guys this weekend," he said, "they certainly would have traveled to meet your child or grandchild given the opportunity."

So true. I once took a class in contemporary moral problems. Those who were against the death penalty for this type of behavior far outnumbered me by everyone against just me alone. I wonder how those as*es feel about it now, given the fact that these things are at such an all time high? Bet they all wished they would have just stuffed a sock in their mouths. I have never trusted anyone alone with my children and warn my daughters of the same. I would kill without remorse if someone ever did that to one of mine.

Even though I am against the death penalty in theory, I can always make exceptions.  Considering that pedophiles are lacking that which makes someone human (a soul!) I have no problem.  It disgusts me that they serve such short sentences in prison.  Why are we not as a society putting more emphasis on the protection of our children.  There is nothing more important...absolutely nothing!

I'm with you granny....I was molested from ages 2-5 by an older cousin and when my family found out they tried to hush it up so he didn't even do time in juvie for it (he was around the age of 16, so quite old enough to know and I think he was 17 when my family finally figured it out) even though he admitted the whole thing and described some pretty screwed up acts, which yes, I still remember. he even got out of going to therapy after only 3 months. lovely. now that I have two children (one boy and one girl) i know that I could , beyond a shadow of a doubt, kill anyone who attempted to molest my babies. I never want them to have the kind of memories and scars that I have, and I wouldn't even waste a moment's sleep putting one of these sick beasts down (too kind to call them dogs...I LIKE dogs).

Yes, indeed. I have been molested by ex step family members. 1 in 4 kids get molested before age 12, I once read, and 1 in 4 adults have some form of venereal disease. Hmmm. I think far too much emphasis is placed on carnal knowledge in these days. Why has society given up on the higher pursuits of the mind and soul? Can't anybody get just as excited over the wonders of nature and mysteries of the universe as they can over porn and sickness? I also must add that my father molested at least one child that I know of, age 12, and my brother molested a 10 year old. I have no use for these people, and if I legally could, you know I would like to help them with their sickness for good.

I have the same thoughts running threw my head too, when I hear these stories. They need to be taken out and put down, like the sick animals that they are.

We get more upset about a mosque. I know we are a domestic society, but I truly feel that one that hurts a child should be given NO second chances, and I agree that the parents should be able to deal with them. I cannot for the life fathom all these idiots that get into children in such a depraved manner, and to think it is not safe anywhere that children go. Parks, church, little league for crying out loud! I loathe these idiots! I honestly think I could put them out of their misery permanantly and have no regrets and sometimes I scare myself because of those thoughts! And it will only get worse as time goes on if we keep slapping their wrists! EW!

5 Years in prison????!!!!!!!  That's it?  This should be a life sentence. I wonder who set such a low prison term? These people should never be out in the world again.

Bragging about it?  I almost can't read these stories anymore.  These people need to go away forever...when it comes to our children, no second chances, no opportunity to get out and do it again. Strike one, your out...and for me that includes even possessing child porn.  Anything involving the abuse of kids in anyway.
